By 1970, networking technology improved and in 1979 UseNet was created. It allowed people to communicate through a virtual newsletter.

Home Computers

1980

Home Computers were becoming common by the 1980’s. Social media was also becoming more sophisticated.

IRC’s

1988

Internet relay chats were used starting in 1988 and continued to be popular all the way into the 1990’s. Internet relay chats are text based chats.

Blogging

1999

Blogging sites first started popping up in 1999. They quickly became popular. They created the social media sensation that’s very popular today.
