In order to keep radio alive, people started putting music on the radio. It filled a void that music made by alowing people to listen to music without buying a recard or paying a jukebox or seeing a live proformence.

The sixties saw the rise of FM radio. With the addition of FM radio more people could hear music because of the different frequency modulation it used. FM aired the growing music of the hippie and psychedelic generation.

In the 80s and 90s radio broadcasting continued to expand. FM began to pose a threat to the AM stations that still played top-40 music in rotation. Thousands more stations sprung up playing all kinds of different music.
