    Charter of 1732
    The Charter of 1732 was the document written by King George the II that created the coloy of GA. The colony served the 3 purposes of helping debtors find work, acting as a buffer for the SC colony from the Spanish, and make GB wealthier. The charter prohibited all colonists from drinking and owning slaves and banned blacks, catholics and lawyers from GA. To keep the colonies in line, 21 trustees were put in charge. These trustees were not allowed to be paid, hold office/own land in GA.

    The Founding of Savannah
    Savannah, the first city in GA, was founded by James Oglethorpe. Oglethorpe and his men arrived on the ship Anne. Tomochichi, the cheif of the Yamacraw Indians, gave them permission to land at Yamacraw Bluff because of his friendship with Oglethorpe. The two cultures were able to communicate with the help of Mary Muscgrove, a women who was part English, part Indian.

    The city of Ebenezer was founded by the Salzburgers. The Salzburgers immagrated to Georgia from Salzburg (modern day Austria) to escape persecution from the Catholics.

    The city of Darien was founded by the Higland Scotts. The Highland Scotts came from scottland and were recruited because of their feirce reputation as warrors. Georgia needed people who could protect them from the Spanish in Florida.

    In the Battle of Bloody Marsh, Georgia colonists were led by General James Oglethorpe. The Georgians fought the Spanish and ended up winning. The Higland Scotts helped Georgia attain this crucial victory that discouraged Spain from ever attacking the Georgia colony again.

    Georgia becomes a Royal Colony
    When GA was ruled by the trustees, a group of colonists, called the Malcontents, were were dissatisfied with the trustees. The Malcontents were unhappy mainly because under the trustee's rule, they could not own slaves, drink rum, and had restrictions on land inheritance. To fufill the colonists wishes, King George turned GA into a Royal Colony that is controlled by the king and governed by Royal Governers. GA's 3 Royal Governors were John Reynolds, Henry Ellis, and James Wright.
