    The begining

    The evolution of football as we know it today took place in Britain. The game that flourished in the British Isles from the eighth to the 19th centuries featured a considerable variety of local and regional versions - which were subsequently smoothed down and smartened up to create the modern-day sports of association football. It is believed that the game of football started somewhere between 1106 and 1214.

    The upper class was not effected by the industrial revolution the middle class were not effected either. It had a great impact on the working class due to the long hours, they barely had any leisure time and if they did the men would go out because they handled the money. The increase of hours meant they only had time for eating sleeping and working.
  • The creation of rules

    The rules were created by a man named Ebenezer morley. His rules were approved by the newly founded football association (FA). Despite the unification of the FA in 1863 disputes persisted into the late 1870s about minor differences in the UK between rules.
  • 100 Pound player

    The first player to ever be transferred for a fee of over £100 was Scottish striker Willie Groves when he made the switch from West Bromwich Albion to Aston Villa in 1893
  • Going global

    Going global
    While the game had been played globally, including in the Olympic; there was not an international governing body to set up international games, rules and structures.
    FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) was establised in 1904 to do just that.
    FIFA does not make the rules of the game but set up international tournaments and competitions.

    The first radio commentary was between Arsenal and Sheffield United both of division one the match ended in a 1-1 draw and the game was played at Highbury
  • World Cups

    World Cups
    World Cups are played every four years
    The first World Cup was played in Uruguay in 1930.
    Uruguay defeated Argentina 4-2 coming out as the first world cup winner.
    A total of 20 World Cups competition has taken place to date; with Brazil winning five (the most).
    Germany has won four and currently holds the title from the 2014 FIFA tournament in Brazil.

    This was a specially arranged friendly between Arsenal and Arsenal Reserves at Highbury. The first cup final to be shown on the BBC was on 30th April 1938 between Huddersfield Town and Preston North End.

    On the 8th of September the FA ceased all football in the UK, except those set up by the armed forces ‘until official notice to the contrary With the threat of air attacks made it impossible for football to go on as usual. On 21 September, the Home Office agreed to allow a revised programme of football as long as it didn't interfere with national service and industry Football was an important recreation for soldiers in Britain with over 1.5 million troops playing or watching sports

    Footballers helped with recruitment Bolton’s captain harry gosling made a speech to urge spectators to join up. Footballers played in Exhibitions to support the war. The second world war led to the start of women’s football teams. Many footballers served in the forces. Football also boosted morale for soldiers. Football was encouraged by officers to boost morale.

    First European winners
    Real Madrid won the first ever European cup final against Stade de Reims. the final score was 4-3 to Real the winning goal came from Rial which was his second of the match eleven minutes from time. Reims hit the post with two minutes remaining but Real held on to claim the trophy.
  • First british club to win european club competition

    First british club to win european club competition
    Tottenham Hotspur beat Atlético Madrid at Feijenoord Stadion in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Tottenham won the match 5–1. This made Tottenham the first British team to win a major European trophy
  • First episode of MOTD

    First episode of MOTD
    The first edition of Match of the Day was screened on BBC2 and showed highlights of a game between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield. The programme's audience was estimated at only 20,000, less than half of the attendance at the ground. The show was presented by Kenneth Wolstenholme and is now presented by ex-footballer Gary Lineker

    2012 – Goal-line technology is permitted, if the individual competition wishes to implement it.
    -goal line technology is basically knowing straightaway if the ball has passed the line or not for a goal It happens from time to time in football: thousands of people filling a stadium watch the ball cross the goal line, but the most important of them all – the referee - hasn’t seen it. Those thousands are aggrieved, the goal is not given, and the whole course of a tournament or league competition
