    Art Nouveau was a conscious attempt at modernism and a departure from traditional Victorian forms of design, most of which looked back to the past for inspiration. There was an emphasis on decoration and artistic unity based on organic and flowings shapes or form.

Futurism portrayed the dynamic character of 20th century life, glorified war and the machine age, and favoured the growth of Fascism. Futurism had radical design movements and embraced technology. Written and printed words were central.

    An art movement involving a mix of modern decorative art styles, largely of the 1920s and 1930s, whose main characteristics were derived from various avant-garde painting styles of the early twentieth century. Art deco works exhibit abstraction, distortion, and simplification, particularly geometric shapes anintense colors.
