When the French revolution started, it caused much uproar. The revolution split Americans in half; separated them. Citizen Genet tried to help, but Washington wanted him recalled. This is important because it is a important part of the French revolution.

During the French revolution, France and Britain were close to fighting as well. Americans remained neutral, (to not pick a side). during April of 1793, Washing proclaimed neutrality. This is important, because what if the Americans did pick a side?

This event followed Shay's Rebellion, and Washington needed to end the rebellion towards whiskey. Washington gathered an army of 12,000+ men and George was committed to enforcing their laws. This was important because this was one of the first impactful things that Washington did.

Washington wanted to avoid war with the British, so he sent John Jay to negotiate with them in London. What they came up with was Jay's treaty, which calmed them down. But it caused much uproar a year later, and it had to be ratified in 1795. This is an important event because it demonstrates that the British and the Americans could have a relationship at that time.

Washington wanted to retire, but the feedback from Hamilton and Jefferson forced him to run for a second term. The election was close, but the federalists won a close victory. After, Jefferson became the vice president under the system. After his second term, Washington decided not to run for a third. During this election, Adams lost the support of the federalists. So, he tried to stop the naval war that was happening. This angered many federalists, including Hamilton. Soon, he lost all of their support and was unable to run for a second term. This was important because its what kept Adams out of office, and put Thomas Jefferson into office.

Jefferson was adopted under this act, which is a process where territories could become states. People under Jefferson wanted the development of the frontier, and Americans were able to buy land. This is important to Jefferson's presidency, because it shows that when people want something, they can get it.

Jefferson came into the presidency with a list of things that he wished to accomplish. One of the things that he needed to do was to reduce the government. This was important because he didn't want the government to influence as much of the peoples lives. So cut in the half the number of men in the army, and much more.

President Jefferson decided to deny the appointments of the federal judges, and Marbury and Madison (judges,) Madison never gave Maybury what he needed. this caused a bit of conflict. This is important because this was one of the results to Jefferson trying to cut down the government.

During Jefferson first term, he made policies that were very popular with the people. He crossed off many of the things he wanted to do. He lowered taxes, and most importantly, he kept the nation at peace.

Congress agreed to sign off on the want for Jefferson to have an expedition to explore the unlearned land under the Louisiana purchase. Jefferson chose Merriweather Lewis and William Clark to go explore the land. They explores river routes, and when they came back two years later, they found much important information on the land. This was important to Jefferson's presidency, because he wanted this, and he got it. They came back with much needed information.
