    The "Encyclopedia" would bring together all the most current and enlightened thinking about science, technology, art, government, and more. The Church was not happy and banned the books. He finally started publishing again. This is important because we still have Encyclopedia's today and they are very important and we get a lot of information from them.

    He believed that people should receive a speedy trial and that torture should never be used. He also believed that the degree of the punishment should be based of off the seriousness of the crime. He also said that capital punishment should be abolished. His ideas influenced criminal law reformers in Europe and North America.

    To protest the taxes on tea Adams organized a raid against three British ships in Boston Harbor. They dumped 342 chests of tea into the water. George III got mad. He formed the First Continental Congress. They spoke about how Boston was being treated. When he didn't listen they formed a Second Continental Congress. THen British soldiers and American militamen exchanged gunfire. The Second Continental Congress voted to have the commander of the army be George Washington.This leads to freedom.

    The Second Continental Congress issued it. Thomas Jefferson wrote it and they were based off of the ideas of John Locke. The document included a long list of George III's abuses. The document ended by breaking the ties between the colonies and Britain. The colonies, the Decaration said, "are absolved from all allegiance to the British crown. This is a very important document to the United States because it means the freedom that we earned.
