  • Captain Arthur Philip

    Captain Arthur Philip
    Captain Arthur Phillip was the first governor of NSW, from 26th of January 1788 to 10th of December 1792. Arthur was the founding governor of NSW and lead 11 ships in the first fleet. He befriended an Eora man called Bennalong. Arthur didn't enjoy slavery. Phillip could speak many different languages such as:German, English,Portuguese and Dutch. He was successful in making a permanent colony, but struggled with the rebellious convicts and famine.
  • Captain John Hunter

    Captain John Hunter
    Captain John Hunter was the 2nd governor of NSW, from the 11th of September 1795 to the 27th of September 1800 and he was also a vice admiral. John arrived in Port Jackson, on the 17th of September 1795. John was one of the first men to travel across the world from east to west. Hunter also tried to restore civil administration and justice, but found himself practically helpless. Hunter Valley was named after him and so was the John Hunter Hospital.

    Captain Philip Gidley King
    Philip Gidely King was the 3rd governor of Australia, from 28th of September 1800 to 12th of August 1806. Before Philip was governor of NSW he was the Lieutenat Governor of Norfolk Island, and he told the offical cheifs at Whitehall that if he was a Lieutenat Governer at Norfolk Island, then he had a chance to be one at Sydney. Philip encouraged small-pox vaccianations and tried to keep peace with indiginous inhabitants. Philip also ordered people to print a book and newspaper about Australia.
  • Captain William Bligh

    Captain William Bligh
    William Bligh was the 4th governor of Australia, from the 13th of August 1806 to 26th of January 1808. William was a hot-tempered and stubborn man who went on James Cook's 3rd voyage to Australia. He was the master of the ship Belle Poule which was "Beautiful Chicken" in French. Bligh was placed under arrest on 26 January 1808 by the New South Wales Corps and deposed from his command, an act which the British Foreign Office later declared to be illegal.
  • Colonel Lachlan Macquarie

    Colonel Lachlan Macquarie
    Lachlan Macquarie was the 5th governor of NSW, from the 1st of January 1810 to the 1st of December 1821. He was appointed the job as Lieutenant Governor but the chosen governor became ill, so Lachlan stepped up to the job. He became the most significant governor of NSW. He built lots of buildings, started industries in clothing items, pottery, linen cloth and the wool industry became bigger. He gave the colony well known places such as, Hyde Park, the Domain and the Botanical Gardens.
