    Proclemation of Neutrality
    With Great Britain and France fighting over on Europe, America was pressured to take sides and America did not want to create issues between them and other foreign countries so they passed the Proclamation of Neutrality and threatened any citizen with legal action if they interfered.
  • Alien and Sedation Acts

    Alien and Sedation Acts
    The government did not want foreigners to influence the voting so they made it more difficult for immigrants to become citizens. They also then allowed the government to imprison or deport noncitizens who they thought were dangerous.     War with Tripoli

    In the Mediterranean Sea, in the early 1800's it became known for its pirates and one of the countries, Libya, made deals with other countries including ours the United States of America. US wanted protection from pirates in the sea so it could get through with its trade without being harmed, but this time US did not want to pay and a war started because of it. But when the US came out of the war they had the perk of a stronger navy because the was mostly on sea.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    To further enlarge the size of the US, they set up a trade deal with France to buy all of the area that they had deemed Louisiana for just 15 million dollars. They took the deal and it nearly doubled the size of the US. After they bought the land President Jefferson sent a group of expeditioners led by the explorers Lewis and Clark. Link text

    In 1812, tensions were between Great Britain and USA and they declared war. One of the main meanings behind the war was that Great Britain restricted trade in-between the countries of United States of America and France and abducted American sailors and merchants when they tried to trade. After the war America became more independent because it less relied on trade to get it's goods
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine
    Once most of the Latin American countries seceded from there European nations, the countries were highly angry and chose to threat them and said that they will stomp out any American representative government. America then fearing European influence on the western hemisphere created the Monroe Doctrine which states that any European power that try's to interfere with an American country the Americas will jump in and assist the American country.

    Tariff of Abominations
    The tariff of Abominations, named because of its act of abominations on the south, was created in 1828. It was made to protect the northern trade industry and had an unexpected side effect of making the south pay more for foreign trade and started to ruin the south's economy.
  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    In 1830 the president Andrew Jackson and Congress passed the Indian Removal Act which moved five native American tribes including the Cherokee, Muscogee, Seminole, Chickasaw, and Choctaw. Almost 20 died on the 400 mile trek to Oklahoma.
