  • Brown V. Education:

    Brown V. Education:
    Brown V. Board of Education was hey Supreme Court case that ruled that racial segregation in public schools be unconstitutional. One of the fighting attorneys was Thurgood Marshall which would later become the first African-American to be appointed on the Supreme Court. This would show that the Supreme Court would not support racial segregation and that public schools would now have to integrate all races.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott and Rosa Parks

    Montgomery Bus Boycott and Rosa Parks
    The story about the racial segregation on Rosa Parks had expanded to result in a large boycott on the Montgomery bus line. Rosa Parks was told to move out of her seat and give up her seat for a white man as she would have to move to the back of the bus. This would result in a 381 boycott against the bus line which would show a proper riot from the African American.
  • Murder of Emmett Till:

    Murder of Emmett Till:
    Emmett Hill was a 14 year old who was accused of whistling at a white girl in Money, Mississippi. He was later lynched for committing such crime. This would result in a high increase in the civil rights movement.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    The little rock nine was a group of students who were denied access to enter the school. They were not allowed to enter and the school had a pr enter that was blocked by the national guard which was a governor order. However when the president of the United States found out he ordered that the army go to little rock high school and make sure that they were able to enter the school. This would show that the president supported the decision of Brown v. Board of Education.

    Greensboro Sit-In
    The Greensboro sit in was a number of famous sit in’s that would show that African Americans were against the racial segregation that was occurring at that time. This would allow for the Woolworth department store chain to remove its policy of racial segregation. This would have an impact to show that some of the protests would be successful.
  • Plessy V. Ferguson

    Plessy V. Ferguson
    The following Supreme Court case was a monumental case that established the idea of “separate but equal”. This case would allow that racial segregation was okay as long as they were both being provided the same material. This would make the civil rights movement a now much harder process due to the fact that whites could now segregate legally.
  • Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee

    Student Non-Violent Coordinating  Committee
    The student non-violent coordinating committee was founded by young black people who had participated in sit-in protests. This committee would be founded by the famous civil rights activist, Martin Luther King Jr. This committee was very well known for their 381 day boycott that they had on the Montgomery bus system.
  • Freedom Riders

    Freedom Riders
    A group of African Americans would stay on the bus line to make sure that the laws were being followed. These people would put there life on the line to make sure that these civil rights were being protected...at least the ones that they currently had. This would show that African Americans were very protective of their rights
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    The march on Washington was lead by advocate Martin Luther King Jr.. The March would exemplify on how many African Americans wanted their rights and equality. The March on Washington is where MLK made his famous “I Have A Dream” speech. The March on Washington was success with having the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act passed only years later.

    Civil Rights Act of 1964:
    The civil rights act of 1964 was passed on July 2nd 1964 which would make all of the work from civil rights activists worth it. The civil rights act would put a stop to the discrimination on African Americans and stop racial segregation. This would make a great impact on the United States by stopping normal practices by whites and would make the United States now a more peaceful place to live.
  • Assassination of Malcolm X

    Assassination of Malcolm X
    Malcolm X was a civil rights activist that believed that they should gain their rights by using violence. Malcolm X was assassinated on February 21st by Nation of Islam members while speaking at one of the rallies. This event was very significant because a significant activist was killed and his goal and legacy still lived on after his death.

    Voting Rights Act
    The voting rights act would come later after the civil rights act of 1964. This act would put an end to the literacy test that were in effect at that time and would also end the poll taxes. This would make equality come to the African Americans in which they have been fighting for, for many years.

    Martin Luther King Jr. was a famous civil rights activist that would have a huge impact on the civil rights movement. He would be known for his famous march on Washington in which were he made his famous “I Have a Dream” speech that would later create the civil rights movement. MLK was assassinated while getting ready for a march that he would be leading.
