  • John West argues for Federation

    A man called John West argued for federation. He felt if they were to stop all the criminals from being sent to Australia, the best defence was to be one united country to fight the laws of London. No date applied
  • Major General J. Bevan recommends a joint military force

    A man called Major General J. Bevan Edwards recommenced a joint military force. In the 1890s four intercolonial conferences implemented his suggestions. No date applied
  • Henry Parkes argues for Federation

    A man called Sir Henry Parkes argued for all the colonies to have federation. He brought all of the colonies governments together and made speech urging that all the colonies should come together as one. He was ready to cooperate on behalf of NSW and the other colonies on the development towards federation.
  • Parkes suggest independence from England

    In 1890 there was a conference held in Melbourne. Henry Parkes said that that Australia is growing in population so they wanted to become an independent country but keep England close in kinship. 6-14 February
  • Conference held in Melbourne

    There was a Australasian conference held in Melbourne. Sir Henry Spoke to all supporters that we are getting a lot money and we are starting to be able to govern ourselves. So they came together to decide have a convention and become closer to being a federation. 6-14 of January
  • First constitutional convention held in Melbourne

    In 1891 there was a constitutional convention held in Sydney. 7 representatives from the colonies and 3 from NZ attended and came to a decision on the name 'Commonwealth Of Australia', they devised a constitution.The members of the constitution committee wrote while on the government yacht 'Lucinda'.   • Federation leagues formed

    A man called Edmond Barton made a short visit to a place called Riverina, NSW. As a conclusion 15 federation leagues in the Riverina district. No date applied
  • Australian Federation League formed

    The Australian Federation league (AFL) was formed in Sydney.
  • Corowa Conference

    Each colonies created laws to elect representatives to attend a meeting in Corowa where they created a draft constitution. A vote was then held in each of the colonies to decide whether to adopt the constitution. The NSW and WA representatives did not attend but both made separate visits to express their opinions. 31st July- 1 August
  • Economic hardships stalls federation interest in colonies

    Several interest party's in federation still held meetings regarding federation however momentum for federation was lost due to financial and economic hardships throughout the colonies. No date applied
  • Premier's meeting in Hobart

    Premier's revisit the Corowa conference plan and agree to enable laws to elect delegates and hold required votes on the constitution in each of the colonies.
  • Second National Australasian Convention

    The second National Australasian Convention is held in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne and agree to the constitution. 2-24 of September
  • Last Australasian Convention

    From Jan the 20 to Mar the 17 The last National Australasian convention was held in Parliament House, Melbourne. Representatives accepted the Constitutional Draft. The Convention Bill made on the 16 of march, based on the altered version of the 1891 Constitution. Australia was then the second country in history, The first country being Switzerland, To take a constitution to the people. the elector were asked to accept the constitution at referendum. 20th of January to the 17 march
  • Voting for the Constitution is held

    Votes are held in NSW, VIC,SA and TAS to decide the constitution. All of the colonies agreed he constitution accept for NSW.
  • Secret Premier's meeting held

    All the premiers came together including QLD that hasn't come since 1895. They agreed to alter the constitution bill to accommodate the concerns of QLD and NSW. They also agreed to site a federal capital within NSW but not near Sydney.
  • Premier's conference held in Melbourne

    On March 19 delegates are sent to London to commend the constitution for the British parliament. The 5th of July was a very important this was when the British Parliament passes the Common Wealth Of Australia Act. On the 9th of July is when Queen Victoria Signs the Common Wealth of Australia Act. On the 31st of July Western Australia held an election.   • Commonwealth of Australia is proclaimed

    On the 1st of January 1901 the Common Wealth Of Australia is affirmed in Centennial Park, Sydney. The proclamation and letters of patent and authority of the Governor General were read and the nine members of the interim Parliament were sworn in with Edmund Barton the first Australian Prime Minister.
