A Dutch sailor names Swan River after seeing the black swans living there. The sailor's name was Willem De Vlamingh and he was on a boat called Geelvinck. He was exploring the mouth of the river when he first saw the swans.
Many people from Sulawesi (Sulawesi is now part of Indonesia) started settling along Australia's coast. They were mostly traders and fishermen. This created good trading relationships between Indigenous people and the Sulawesi people.
Australia first publicly exports Merino wool. It was sent from Sydney to Europe. Now 80% of the worlds Marino wool comes from Australia.

Govenor Richard Bourke starts annual fines on squatters. He does this to try to stop Indigenous Australians from being killed and to regulate the use of the land.
Gold is found at in a few places, causing gold rushes. The rushes lasted 10 years. The population increases a lot and passes the million mark because of this gold rush. So many Chinese enter Australia so a restriction is set up to stop any more from entering. Aborigines aren't treated well during this time leading to their numbers collapsing.
Australia's economy was booming, but it suddenly stopped and sent Australia into a depression. The depression lasted three years. It was started by many payment issues.
