A Dutch sailor names Swan River after seeing the black swans living there. The sailor's name was Willem De Vlamingh and he was on a boat called Geelvinck. He was exploring the mouth of the river when he first saw the swans. Source:

Many people from Sulawesi (Sulawesi is now part of Indonesia) started settling along Australia's coast. They were mostly traders and fishermen. This created good trading relationships between Indigenous people and the Sulawesi people. Source:

Gold is found at in a few places, causing gold rushes. The rushes lasted 10 years. The population increases a lot and passes the million mark because of this gold rush.
