This day was one of her last weeks as a careless schoolgirl and she doesn't have a clue how her life is going to turn upside down.

The day before this event, Anne's father told her that they might have to go into hiding soon. Then, the day after, Germans came to their house to take Anne's father Otto away (to a concentration camp). Later they found out that they actually wanted to take Anne's sister Margot.

The day before, they packed their things and went into their father's office building before the sunrise. They lived in a secret annexe - a separate building that has been added to a larger one. In there they had been storing their supplies which were at first pretty big. The entrance in the annexe was hidden behind a bookcase which opened like a door.

On this day Mr and Mrs van Daan and their son Peter arrived in the annexe. (other name - van Pels)

Mr Dussel joined the two families in the annexe. He was a dentist who seemed nice at first, but soon after he got into conflicts. First with Anne, later with others.

Anne missed having a friend and she wanted someone to talk to and spend time with. Someone to make these monotonous a little brighter. She started hanging out with Peter and they fell in love. In this period of time, because of their close friendship, Anne gets a more positive perspective on their current situation.

In this period a series of events had led to a shortage of supplies such as potatoes, jam, oil. They lived on bread, beans and a very little amount of vegetables.

Burglars broke into the warehouse after which the police came in. They were next to the shelf door but didn't find the entrance, so the families were still unrevealed.

The day when Anne and Peter kissed for the first time.

On this day the Allies started their invasion on Germans. This represented hope for Anne and others who were hiding.

German and Dutch police arrested 8 people (Franks, van Daans and Mr Dussel) who were hiding in the Annexe and two of their helpers: Mr Kugler and Mr Kleiman. The 8 people were later taken to Auschwitz - a concentration camp in Poland.

Anne and her sister Margot died in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany from a terrible illness in this timespan.
The only survivor of the 8 was Otto, Anne's father, who later published Anne's diary.
