  • Nuclear Arms Race

    Nuclear Arms Race
    Although this was period of time it was very important in the cold war because it essentially was the ultimate battle for power. Basically which ever side had the upper hand in Nuclear weapons which was a judgement of who had more power. During this time of the development of the weapons many people lived in fear and the outbreak of a nuclear war was always on the radar for people. It was also a good judgement on the battle for power and control.
  • The Containment Policy

    The Containment Policy
    This policy was important to the Cold War as it was the US publicly announcing that they had felt the rest of the world appoint them to stop the spread of communism. This was also important because it led to the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
  • NATO

    NATO
    NATO was a pact that was signed by western nations and it was done so that it could provide metal assistance if they were attacked. The soviets did not approve of NATO and wanted it abolished as it was clearly aimed at the Soviets.
  • Korean War

    This was a significant event because these the USA and Soviets were feeling this war because the US aided the South and China and the Soviets were aiding the north. This was also a big event because it the tensions between the two powers was greatly increased. It also can be argued this was the start of the Cold War
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    This was the Soviet response to NATO and this is included because the Cold War was a war that was done through action and reaction so it's good to include a soviet response to the US action. Warsaw was also important because it was who the Soviets had allied and gave the US and idea of the countries who supported the USSR.
  • American Spy Plane Incident

    American Spy Plane Incident
    This was when Soviets shot down US pilot Gary powers after he was spying on soviet air space. Powers was held prisoner and after 1 year and 9 months Powers was traded for Soviet spy Rudolf Abel at Checkpoint Charlie. This was significant because both agreed to trade prisoners and this was in such a period of tension between the two nations.
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall was a vital part of the cold war because it divided the one place where the USSR and USA. This was important because the USSR had realised that everyone wanted to leave the Soviet side of Berlin and wanted to go to the US occupied side, So then the Soviets enforced power and threatened to shoot anyone who left the east. As a result many people suffered in the east and the ones who tried to escape were shot.

    The wall was also significant because it sheds light and gives use a real insight on the relationship between the powers. It also was a direct cause to many deaths and tough living.
  • The Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Cuban Missile Crisis
    This event was significant because in this 13 confrontation the two powers reached the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full scale Nuclear War.
