    Berlin Airlift After WWII the German Capital city was divided into four sections. The Russians wanted all of Berlin to themselves so they blocked all routes in and out of the city to stop all transport to the people. Truman did not want to start WWIII so he decided to air lift supplies into the city, Thus known as the Berlin Airlift.
