The Russian Revolution displayed the spread of communism. The soviets had an aggressive democratic policy toward Eastern Europe. Bulshiviks and Manshiviks fought against each other. Bulshiviks were the communist group and the U.S. supported Manshiviks
The Atomic Bomb - Hiroshima/Nagasaki
The atomic bombs were first created and dropped by the U.S. on Hiroshima and Nagasaki which put an end to WWII. The Soviets were very upset with the atomic bombs power because the Soviets army would be no match for the atomic bomb.
The Iron Curtain was the dividing of Europe of The second world war was over. The eastern side of the Iron Curtain were those who supported the Soviets and on the western side were those who supported the U.S.
The Potsdam Conference
The Potsdam conference was a meeting between the U.S., Britian, and the Soviet Union on how to split future Germany.
A change in the U.S. policy. This provided economic, political and military assistance to anyone who under threat of an attack. from the Soviet Union. Which gave other countries protection.
The Molotov plan was created by the Soviets to provide aid and to rebuild the countries in Eastern Europe which were politically and economically allied with the Soviets.

Alger Hiss Case
Alger Hiss, who worked in the government, was accused of being a Soviet spy and was found guilty. This put people in fear of communism throughout the government
A plan of economic assistance to all countries in Eastern Europe. Marshall gave 12 billion dollars to all these countries to grow there economies and not starve.
The Berlin Blockade was one of the international crises of the Cold war. The Soviet Union blocked off railway, road and canal access to Berlin. This left people starving and some homeless.
The Berlin Airlift which had lasted for over more than year and had dropped about 2.3 millions tons of cargo and supplies into West Berlin for the people that are stuck.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was concluded of 29 member states. This was an agreement to if one was at danger the alliance would need to help.
Soviet Bomb Test
The Soviets started working on the nuclear weapon through out the 1930s. The soviets based there product off of the "fat man" created by the Americans and test there weapon at the Semipalatinsk Test Site in Kazakhstan.
The tension between Northern and Southern Korean parts broke out into the Korean war. China and the Soviet Union supported the North and the U.S. supported the South.
The Rosenburgs were American citizens that had spied for the Soviet Union. They were tried and convicted later on executed by the federal government of the United States.
These hearings came in a series that were publicated by the US Senates subcommittee on investigations against the Army and the senate
Battle of Dien Bien Phu
The Battle of Dien Bien Phu was specifically to flush out the Vietnamese. The battle was between the French and the Vietnamese communists.
Several nations held a conference in Geneva, Switzerland. This conference was to settle issues that came from the Korean war. Nations ended up adopting new proposals and declarations.
This treaty was signed by the Soviet Union, 7 other Soviet states and Eastern Europe. This pact was also known as the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutal Assistance
This was an uprising revolt against the communist regime. Students began to march through and protest. As one student died that began the revolution against the communist.
As the Soviets shot down an US U2 plane that collapsed the summit conference in Paris with the Soviet, US, UK and France. The Soviets saw the recon plane as an "agressive act" and followed to shoot it down.
Bay of Pigs Invasion
The Bay of Pigs was a failed attack on the Cuban leader Fidel Castro and his men. Most of these soilders were Cuban exiles that traveled to the US and enrolled to fight.
The Berlin wall was a fully secured concrete wall that heavily guard by German defense. This didnt let anyone inside out or outside in. This giant concreted wall later known as the death strip.

The Cuban Missile Crisis or the "October Crisis" was a confrontation between the US and the Soviet Union. This missile launching was in response to the failed invasion in the Bay of Pigs.

Diem, the southern vietnamese president, was arrested and later assassinated along with his younger brother after a successful attack in Saigon.
Assassination of JFK
John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the united states, was assassinated in a motorcade while riding with his wife. JFK's killer had acted alone on this ambush. This devastated tons of people.
Tonkin Gulf Resolution
The US congress passed a joint resolution after what happened in the Gulf of Tonkin. This gave Lyndon authorization to use military forces in Southeast Asia.
Operation Rolling Thunder
The bombing was held by the 2nd Air Division and later on the seventh air force. This was during the Vietnam war. This was against the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
Northern Vietnam had launched an attack on Southern Vietnam. This was a surprise attack on the there military forces and civilian control throughout Southern Vietnam.
Assassination of MLK
Martin Luther King a civil rights leader was shot at while he was staying at a motel. Later on pronounce dead. MLK pushed and motivated all blacks around him
Assassination of RFK
RFK a presidential candidate was wounded mortally after midnight and later pronounced dead after 1 in the morning. RFK had just finished a speaking as he was shot on the way out. Thousands were shocked.
Invasion of Czechoslovakia
Five Warsaw pact countries decided to invade Czechoslovakia. 250,000 warsaw pacts had invaded and had killed czechoslovakian civilians and wounded hundreds.
Riots of Democratic Convention
Lyndon B. Johnson had announced that he will not be running for reelection and this convention was made to find a new nominee to fill his spot.
Election Of Nixon
Richard Nixon defeated Democratic nominee Humphery. This disrupted the Deal Coalition for the next 36 years. Republican Nixon won by over 100 votes.
At a massive protest at Ken State University there were shootings upon unarmed college students. In 13 seconds and 67 shots there were 4 students dead and 9 others wounded.
Nixon Visits China
Nixon's visit with Chinese was very very important. This was the first time a US president had visited the PRC. Nixon used these visits to gain more leverage on the Soviet Union.
Ceasefire in Vietnam
A peace treaty was signed to have peace in Vietnam and therefore end the Vietnam war that suffered many casualties. And now today they are one of our greatest allies.
Fall of Saigon
Southern Vietnam or the Vietnam had taken over Saigon, the capital on South Vietnam. This had hundreds of people trying to flee there homes.
Reagan defeated Jimmy Carter, a democrat. Some have known to call this the 'Reagan era'. Reagan had Carter beat by nearly 10 million votes.
This was an idea to make a satellite defense to take out enemy missiles. This will later be bluff just to make the Soviets scared and worried. This was known as "Star Wars".

This was a cold war era meeting in Switzerland. Both these leaders talked about diplomatic relations and arms race for the first time ever
'Tear down this wall' speech
Ronald Reagan traveled to West Berlin to give his 'Tear down this wall' speech to the people. Reagan called out Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin wall.
Fall of Berlin Wall
After Reagans speech 'Tear down this wall', the Berlin wall began to fall. Citizens began to chip away and tear down the Berlin wall and all of its remains.
