Cold war

The Cold War

  • VE Day

    VE Day
On May 7th, 1945 Germany finally surrendered after 6 years of a bloody way. This would be considered a militaristic action. I believe it was important to the Cold War because this can be considered the starting event, which would lead to the Warsaw pact.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw Pact was "a mutual defense organization that put the Soviets in charge of the armed forces of the member states." The Warsaw pact was around until 1991 it was later demolished in July. The pact was important because it called on any member to come to fight if any one side is attacked. This would be categorized as a political action because its a treaty.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
Histories first artificial satellite was actually made by the Soviet Union many say it was used to monitor any missiles sent out by the United States. The satellite was called Sputnik and in return the Americans felt threatened and created NASA. This would be categorized as science/technology.
  • Missile Crisis

    Missile Crisis
This event may be a little sketchy, buy there was a growing missile crisis in Cuba where the issue was that there was Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba because there was U.S. missiles in Turkey, in the end both sides agreed to remove their missiles from their designated spot. I believe this could be classified as an economic problem because we wasted money on a lot of missiles.
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    Fall of the Berlin Wall
This event represents a cultural impact. The wall basically stood for a division and was a symbol of repression in the Cold War so when it fell it signified that there were no more borders and everyone can come together as one.
