First Nuclear bomb dropped
The first nuclear bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan by the USA. It was dropped by a plane called the Enola Gay. The bomb was ordered to be dropped by President Harry S. Truman. -
Berlin gets blockaded
Russia puts a blockade around all the land routes from west berlin to West Germany to try and starve the Western powers out of Berlin. this plan did not work because America airlifted food and supplies. This went from th 28th 1948 to the 12th of May 1949. -
NATO formed
The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation or NATO was formed on April 4th, 1949. The treaty was signed by 12 nations. the treaty was formed to protect the Aorth Atlantic nations from the soviet union. -
ICBM
The Intercontinental ballistic missle or ICBM was a big part in the cold war. The ICBM unlike bombs can be shot from one country, travel great distances then hit its target. From when america started its program to produce ICBM's in 1954, both America and the Sovit had missles pointed at each other. -
The first Nuclear Submarine
The first nuclear submarine was launched by the Americans on January 21st, 1954. The submarine was named USS Nautilus and was a very dangerous weapon because it could lanuch missles from anywhere. -
The Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw Pact was a Soviet response to NATO. It was very similer to NATO in that the participants all shared resources. -
The Bay of Pigs
The Bay of Pigs was a failed atemped of an invasion on Cuba by the Americans. The Americans were trying to help Cuban exiles overthrow the Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, but the plan was a failed atempt. The Americans also wanted to stop missles that the soviets had sent to Cuba. -
Fall of the Berlin wall
On November 9th, 1989, The berlin wall was breached and was started to be pulled down. this signified the start of the end of the cold war. -
Fall of the USSR
On the 8th of December the Presidents of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus declare the Soviet Union has dissolved
