Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, made a huge accomplishment during the cold war. Knowing that the US and USSR were competing for space tech, this definetely put the US over the top. The famous phrase "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" is refering to Armstrongs first step on the moon.

Ultimately, the Israelies were successful in just 6 days but many negative were to follow. One of these negatives is the number of arabs who joined the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organisation) which was a terrorist group.

The 1980 Olympic Hockey game, depicted in the movie "Miracle on Ice," was a rival match between the USSR and the US. The two had been battling for Hockey for years. The USSR was the winner most times but not in 1980. An amazing team and coach from Minnesota had challenged the best and they won. This boosted Americans moral big time.

This is said to be the reunification of Germany. The few days after the wall went away were the strangest to most people because of all the new freedoms. Stores could stay open as long as they wanted, people could say what they wanted, and many other things.

The down-fall of the USSR started around the same time that Mikhail Gorbachev was appointed. Gorbachev is the one who takes most of the blame for the collapse of the USSR.
