  • HUAC

    HUAC was created to help preserver American ways of life from weeding out "Un-American" acts in the U.S.
  • Yalta Conference

    In February, 1945, Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt met again. This time the conference was held in Yalta in the Crimea. With Soviet troops in most of Eastern Europe, Stalin was in a strong negotiating position. Roosevelt and Churchill tried hard to restrict post-war influence in this area but the only concession they could obtain was a promise that free elections would be held in these countries.
  • Potsdam Conference

    On 16 July 1945, the "Big Three" leaders met at Potsdam, Germany, near Berlin. In this, the last of the World War II heads of state conferences, President Truman, Soviet Premier Stalin and British Prime Ministers Churchill and Atlee discussed post-war arrangements in Europe, frequently without agreement. Future moves in the war against Japan were also covered.
  • UN Created

    The United Nations was created shortly after WWII and is still in use today. It is an alliance system which the U.S. is involved in. The U.S.S.R created th Warsaw pact in response.
  • Truman Doctrine

    On March 12, 1947, President Harry S. Truman presented this address before a joint session of Congress. His message, known as the Truman Doctrine, asked Congress for $400 million in military and economic assistance for Turkey and Greece.
  • Marshall Plan

    Officially known as the European Recovery Program (ERP), the Marshall Plan was intended to rebuild the economies and spirits of western Europe, primarily. Marshall was convinced the key to restoration of political stability lay in the revitalization of national economies. Further he saw political stability in Western Europe as a key to blunting the advances of communism in that region.
  • Hollywood 10

    The Hollywood Blacklist came into being in 1947 when the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC) began to summon certain Hollywood entertainment professionals on the suspicion that their work was communist-inspired. As the media began extensive coverage of the proceedings, some writers, producers, and directors became known as the "Hollywood Ten."

    McCarthy begins his communist witch hunt in the U.S.

    We start building up our nuclear arsenal to compete with communist countries.
  • Nuclear Arms Race "Ends"

    Our testing of nuclear weapons in Nevada end.
  • Warsaw Pact

    The Warsaw Pact, so named because the treaty was signed in Warsaw, included the Soviet Union, Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria as members. The treaty called on the member states to come to the defense of any member attacked by an outside force and it set up a unified military command under Marshal Ivan S. Konev of the Soviet Union.
  • Sputnik Launch

    The Russian satellite, Sputnik, is the very first satellite launched into space and struck fear into American Citizens.
  • NASA

    NASA was established by the National Aeronautics and Space Act on July 29, 1958, replacing its predecessor, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). The agency became operational on October 1, 1958.[9][10] U.S. space exploration efforts have since been led by NASA, including the Apollo moon-landing missions, the Skylab space station, and later the Space Shuttle.

    The U2 Crisis was started when the Soviets released that they shot down a U.S. U2 spy plane above the U.S.S.R which put a panic to see what their reaction would be.

    Bay of Pigs invasion begins in Cuba which is the biggest event in the Cuban Missle Crisis.
  • Berlin Wall Built

    A physical divider was put in place inside of Berlin which lasted for over 30 years before being torn down.
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    First reports come in thhat Russia is sending Nuclear weapons to Cuba.
  • John F. Kennedy Assassinated

    John F. Kenndey was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.
  • Tet Offensive

    The Tet Offensive was a military campaign during the Vietnam War that was launched on January 30, 1968. Regular and irregular forces of the People's Army of Vietnam fought against the forces of the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam), the United States, and their allies. The purpose of the offensive was to utilize the element of surprise and strike military and civilian command and control centers throughout South Vietnam, during a period when no attacks were supposed to take place.
  • Vietnamization

    Vietnamization was a policy of the Richard M. Nixon administration during the Vietnam War, as a result of the Viet Cong's Tet Offensive, to "expand, equip, and train South Vietnam's forces and assign to them an ever-increasing combat role, at the same time steadily reducing the number of U.S. combat troops."[

    We were the first people to send a person, Neil Armstrong, to the moon.
  • Kent State Shootings

    Kent State gained international attention on May 4, 1970, when an Ohio Army National Guard unit fired at students during an anti-war protest on campus, killing four and wounding nine. The Guard had been called into Kent after several protests in and around campus had become violent, including a riot in downtown Kent and the burning of the ROTC building. The main cause of the protests was the United States' invasion of Cambodia during the Vietnam War.[
