Plessy v. Ferguson
Plessy v. Ferguson is a case where plessy was arrested for sitting in a white car. Plessy had a ancestory that was black and eventhough plessy could pass for white he was still considered black under law. This is significant because later there will no longer be segregation and whites and blacks could sit in the same cart. -
Brown v. Board of Education
Mr. Browns kids had to walk several blocks to go to a black school he made a chase and took it to the supreme cout saying that they are not equal because white children have schools near them and the black children have to go to another school. He said that that wasn't equal for all the people. This is significant because this case allowed black kids and white kids to go to the same schoo. -
Emmett Till
Emmett was a kid from chicago that went to mississippi to stay a while he was killed for saying something to a white girl in Mississippi. This is significant because his mutilated body was sent back to Chicago and was shown in the funeral. The people saw how horrible people were being treated in the south and it made people open their eyes more and see how mad the situation was. -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
The montgomery bus boycott is when all the african americans stopped using the busses. All the african american boy cotted and didn’t ride the bus for 11 months. They didn't like the segregation on the bus and stopped using to make a point. This is significant because the bus company lost losts of money. Later on they passed a bill that said the people could sit anywhwere on the bus. -
Little Rock School desegregation
The school was letting black chldren go to school,but many people didn't want them there. The parents of the white kids made riots outside of the school to make sure that they didn't go in but ater on the president send in the army to take care of the kids while in school. This significant because it was a time where the govenment was protecting the rights of the kids and allowing them to go to school. -
Sit-ins in Greensboro/ Nashville
local kids would do sit in the white sides in restaurants they would not do nothing just sit . They sat to make a stand and they weren’t doing nothing. This is significant becuase eventhought he students weren't doing nothing they were send to jail and sometimes beat up for sitting. This showed the people that segregation was not fair. -
March on Washington
The March on Washington was when thousands of people went to see Martin Luther Kings speech. MLK gave a speech on how we dreamed that one day white people and black people could live together in peace. This is significant because it made the united states pass a bill about segregation. -
March on Birmingham
Many kids in Alabama skipped school to protest in the street for freedom. Many kids were arrested and tooken to jail by school busses.The kids on the street where being mistreated by the police. This is significant because it's the day when the kids stood up for something they belived in and decided to face the consequenses. -
The Civil Rights Act of 1964
This made the it illegal to descrimate people. This was significant because all the people that were being descriminated couldn't be descriminated no longer for being who they are. -
Voting Rights Act of 1965
This act allows people to vote no matter on the color of their skin. This act gave the african americans the right to vote. -
Martin Luther King Assassinated
MLK was aa civil rights activist.MLK was the person that many people looked up to with hope of a better life. His death caused a major outrage in the black community becuase he was the man that made the civil rights act possible. MLK is significant because he was the face of the black community.
