    The liberator was a newspaper published by William Lloyd Garrison. William Lloyd Garrison published the newspaper to portray his idea of slavery. He called for a immediate end to slavery. The first Liberator was released on January 1st 1831, and went on for 35 years till its last issue on December 29 1865.

    The Compromise of 1850 was proposed by Henry Clay. It would allow places that had been a free state for years have slavery, and the northerners rebelled at that.During that time California became a our 31st state September 9, 1850. It also passed the Fugitive Slave Act. Which demanded that all run away slaves be returned. Also if you were found helping a slave you could be fined, or sent to jail

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    Uncle Tom's Cabin was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, it depicted what slavery looked like down in the south. Uncle Tom's Cabin was published on March 20 1852. At first it started out in just little snippets in a newspaper. It was banished in the south, because of according to southerners it was false, and that the slaves were treated better then the workers in the northern factories.

    The Kansas-Nebraska Act was proposed by Stephen A. Douglas in 1854. This act would repeal the Missouri Act, and let the citizens choose if they wanted slavery. In the end the southerners won, and slavery way allowed. This divided Kansas in two. It was Kansas's personal civil war. Newspapers called this war the "Bleeding Kansas".

    Dred Scott was an African American slave, that lived with his owner. His owner moved to free territories, and lived there for quite a few years. After his owner passed away he went to his wife to buy his freedom, she said "no". She remarried a white abolitionist who wanted to get him his freedom. They went to court to get him freed, and the judge at the court said "no". This infuriated northerners tearing the nation apart even more.

    On October 16, 1859, John Brown tried to raid a gun vault to arm African Americans. He was stopped in his act, and sentenced to death by hanging. Some northerners some him as a fool; idiot others as a martyr. In the end it proved southerners fears that northerners were going to come down with guns, and end slavery.

    Abe Lincoln was elected our first Republican President of the U.S. on November 6th, 1860. Southerners were highly distraught when Lincoln became president, because they didn't believe the Republic idea on slavery. This ultimately stated the civil war in America.

    South Carolina seceded from the Union on December 20, 1860 after taking a vote. They seceded from the Union, because Abraham Lincoln became president. South Carolina was the first of 11 states to secede, and make the Confederate States of America.

    South Carolina after seceding from the Union demands that Fort Sumter surrenders that South Carolina owns it now. They refuse to surrender without orders from the president. After fighting the fort sends a message to Abe who sends supplies. South Carolina doesn't want them reinforced so they end the fort quickly.

    The battle of Bullrun was between the North and the South. The battle was on July 21, 1861. So many rich people thought the North would win that they brought their wives to have a picnic while they watched the battle.

    The Emancipation Proclamation said that all slaves in the South were to be freed. This was before the civil war was even over in America. President Abraham Lincoln issued the proclamation on September 22, 1862.

    The Battle of Gettysburg was between the North, and the South. It was one of the most important battles of the civil war. The battle waged on July 1, 1863. In the end the Northerners won.

    On November 15, 1864 General led about 60,000 soldiers across the land to frighten Georgians from joining the Confederate cause. It was a 285 miles trek.

    General Lee was trying to move west to supplies, because the Union had cut him off. In the end the Union surrounded him again, and he surrender all of his remaining troops to General Grant at the court house on April 9, 1865
  • Abraham's Assassination

    Abraham's Assassination
    On April 14, 1865 Abraham Lincoln was assassinated at a theater by John Wilkes Booth, a famous actor. This happened only five days after General Lee surrendered thousands of troops to General Grant.
