The Alamo - 13 Day Siege

  • Day 1

    Day 1
    General's Santa Anna troops move into San Antonio. Colonel Travis and garrison move into Alamo. Two scouts are sent to Gonzales with pleas for help. Santa Anna demands for surrender. Travis answers with a 18-pounder shot.
  • Day 2

    Day 2
    Colonel Bowie gets sick and turns full command over to Travis. Mexican cannons begin shooting at the Alamo. Travis writes his "To The People of Texas & all Americans in the world" letter.
  • Day 3

    Day 3
    Artillery shooting continues. Mexican cannons are placed across the river about 300 yards from Alamo. Travis sends an appeal to Sam Houston for help.
  • Day 4

    Day 4
    Texans make a raid, burning several homes where the Mexican troops are staying.
  • Day 5

    Day 5
    Bombardment continues. Temperature down to 39 degrees.Travis sends Bonham to seek help from Colonel Fannin in Goliad.
  • Day 6

    Day 6
    The Alamo endures prolonged strikes from Santa Anna’s cannons.
  • Day 7

    Day 7
    Weather improves to 55 degrees. Santa Anna moves his troops closer.
  • Day 8

    Day 8
    32 more troops come to help Alamo Defenders.
  • Day 9

    Day 9
    The people inside the Alamo did not know that the Texas government at Washington-on-the-Brazos declared independence from Mexico on this day.
  • Day 10

    Day 10
    Travis sends out his last known letter for assistance, saying, “I am determined to die in the defense of this place, and may my bones reproach my country for her neglect.”
  • Day 11

    Day 11
    Santa Anna ordered his cannons moved closer to the Alamo. The prolonged attack continues.
  • Day 12

    Day 12
    Santa Anna plans to attack the Alamo in the morning. Travis draws a line in the sand and asks the people in the Alamo to make a decision to stand and fight or leave. Only one man, Moses Rose, chooses to leave.
  • Day 13!

    Day 13!
    Santa Anna troops attack just before dawn. After a bloody 90-minute battle, the Alamo falls. Santa Anna orders the bodies of the dead defenders burned. But we will always remember the bravery of those who fought for Texas.
