The war was one of the many conflicts between Native Americans and white settlers over western land. The war ended in August 1832 with a treaty that forced Native Americans to surrender all land east of the Mississippi River to the United States government.

The United States offered to buy land from Mexico extending from Texas to the Pacific Ocean, but Mexico wanted to keep that area of land. In 1846, a dispute over the border between Texas and Mexico resulted in conflict, and the Mexican American War began. The war ended with the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
