    Battle of the Alamo

    Santa Anna's army of more than 4000 besieged the 182 Texans defending the Alamo eventually storming and killing them all on March 6th and burning all their bodies. In the attack Santa Anna lost an estimated 1600 men. (Tarin)
  • Texas Declares Independence

    Written by George C. Childress at a convention at Washington-on-the-Brazos. Modeled after the US constitution it was based on the need for separation from the Mexicans for "self-preservation" due to the violation of an 1824 treaty. (Campbell, 2018)

    David Burnet as Interim President

    Although the interim presidency and government was set to run through December 1836, Burnet resigned so that order could be established in the new republic sooner. (Campbell, 2018)
  • Surrender by Colonel Fannin near Goliad

    Colonel James Fannin, after receiving orders from Houston to fall back to Victoria, delayed and then when eventually trying to do so on the 19th fought a brief battle against the Mexican army before surrendering. (Campbell, 2018)
  • Execution/Massacre at Fort Goliad

    Colonel James Fannin and his more than 300 men who had surrendered a week prior were executed on Santa Anna's orders. (Presidio Nuestra)

    Battle of San Jacinto and capture of Santa Anna

    Sam Houston led the Texans against Santa Anna's Mexican troops and defeated them on the 21st. On the 22nd a search party brought in Santa Anna, the captured president of Mexico. (Campbell, 2018)
  • Treaty of Valasco is signed

    One Public and one private treaty were signed by Santa Anna and Burnet, bringing an end to the war and establishing a boundary for Texas. (Campbell, 2018)

    Sam Houston Presidency 1

    Due to a term limit of 2 years for the initial president Houston was unable to run for re-election after winning the first vote by a large margin. (Campbell, 2018)

    Miribeau Lamar President

    The Second President of Texas, an enemy of Houston's, he reversed many policies that had been in effect and took an opposite approach to most issues while in office. He also won the presidency easily since Houston could not run. (Campbell, 2018)

    Sam Houston Presidency 2

    Houston won easily over former interim president and current vice president David Burnet. Houston spent much of his second term working to get Texas annexed to the US since he had been unable to get the US to annex Texas during his first presidency and he succeeded in getting the process started before leaving office.     Anson Jones President

    After an easy victory, Jones saw Texas to a close as a republic and guided her while the annexation process finished. (Campbell, 2018)
  • President Polk signs Texas into the Union

    James K. Polk signed the Texas Admission Act adding Texas to the union. They had already elected a governor to replace the president and only needed to establish a state government. (Campbell, 2018)
