Francisco Vasquez de Coronado led an expedition in search of the mythical Seven Cities of Cibola. The expedition went accross present-day northern Texas and into southwestern United States.

Fort St. Louis was established at Matagorda Bay by Robert Cavelier, Sieur de LaSalle. This formed the basis of the claim of Texas from France.

The Mexican government gave Stephen F. Austin a grant. He began to colonize the region near the Brazos River.

Mexico was given a form of republican goverment by The Constitution of 1824.

The colonial leaders made a new consitution. Then they sent Stephen F. Austin to present it, along with a list of demands. Austin conceded and presented to the Mexican government, but President Santa Ana refused to grant Texas a different status and threw Austin in prison.

The heat burned to strong between Texas and Mexico for their disagreement to be settled by words. It was time to take it to the battle feild. This battle is generally thought to be the first in the Texas Revolution.

Under Col. William B. Travis, Texas was overwhelmed in San Antonio by a two-week seige from the Mexican army.

The Runaway Scrape began with the Siege and Fall of the Alamo and ending with the Battle of San Jacinto on April 21. It was a time of panic and great fear within Texas settlements. During this time Santa Ana and the Mexican army moved east from the Alamo.During the scrape, the colonists gathered few of their personal items and fled eastward under very hard conditions.

Mexicans, under the order of Santa Ana, executed 400 Texans at Goliad, which included James Fannin.

Under Sam Houston, the Mexican forces of Santa Anna were routed by Texans at the Battle of San Jacinto. Independence was won!
