    Age of Exploration

    They explored to look for goods, to discover the unknown, and to find a new route for silk and spice trades (the three G's, God, glory and gold). When Columbus found America, he was looking for a trade route to Asia. Most explorers were from Europe. A conquistador is a Spanish conqueror of Mexico and Peru from the 16 century. Cortes tore down Tenochtitlan.

    Pineda maps the Texas Coast

    Pineda mapped almost 800 miles of the coast. He was the first one to do this
  • Jan 1, 1532

    Cabeza de Vaca shipwrecks

    Cabreza de Vaca was captured by the Karankawa tribe. During the Age of Contact most people were killed by disease. His stories inspired other to intensify the exploration that went on which would soon be Texas.
  • Jan 1, 1540

    Coronado sets out for Cibola

    Cibola is a mythical land of seven cities of gold that was set out by explorers. Coronado thought Cibola was in Texas because they were told stories about the legend and were sent to explore it. One of the shipwreck survivors went to Mexico City and lied that he had seen the seven golden cities. They did not find Cibola. Instead of finding Cibola they found out that Florida was not and island. They also discovered the Grand Canyon
  • Fort St. Louis was founded

    Fort St. Louis was a French colony made in 1685 in present-day Texas. It is locaed near Arenosa Creek and Matagorda Bay by La Salle
  • La Salle lands in Texas

    France started beginning to challenge Spain for Texas. La Salle discoered the mouth of the Mississppi River along with Texas. It was founded by La Salle. It failed because the French abandoned it after the native American attacks and they had failed in growing enough crops. La Salle died because
  • Mission San Francisco was founded

    Missions were used to protect and settle the long and exposed frontier. Most missions failed and did not success. Spain was responsible for building missions. Missions were affiliated with Catholism. Disease and droughts failed many missions.
  • Marques de Rubi inspects Texas

    The king of Spain, Carlos III, sent de Rubi to inspect Texas. His mission was to see what Spain should do to strengthen their influence on Texas. He recommended that they ally with Comanche against the Apache and the capital should be moved from Los Adaes to San Antonio.
  • Philip Nolan Expedition

    A filibuster is a person engaging in unauthorized warfare against a foreign country. Ellis P. Bean and Mitchell Moore. Jean Lafitte was a French-American pirate and pioneer in the Gulf of Mexico
  • The Louisiana Purchase

    It signaled the end. France and Spain
  • Mexico gains independence

    Mexico gained their independence from Spain. The Mexican Constitution of 1824.
  • Moses Autin asks Permission for Colony

    Austin kept persisting, and soon got his permission. He dies because of disease before establishing the colony
  • Stephen F. Austin establishes his Colony

    An empresario is a person that was granted permission to live on Mexican land in exchange for recruiting and taking responsibility foe settlers. SFA collected 300 families that would be able to live in his Texas colony. As time went by, the colony grew bigger and bigger.
  • Fredonian Rebellion

    This was done by Anglos that lived in Texas and secede from Mexico. The Edward brothers were upset with the government.
  • Mier y Teran Report

    This report was done to see how Texas was and what they should do. Mier y Teran reccomended that they have a stronger influence on Texas.
  • Law of April 6, 1830

    This banned many things because the were trying to strengthen Mexico's influence on Texas. These laws angered many colonists.
  • Convention of 1833

    This was a gathering of Mexican settlers
  • Austin Arrested.

    Becasue of this SFA believed that the Mexican were wrong

  • The Alamo Falls

    Three notable Alamo defenders are Daid Crockett, James Jim Bowie and William Travis. There were around 300 defenders. Sam Houston did not send reinforcements because he had his own plan. The Mexican soldiers won the battle.
  • The Runaway Scrape

    Everybody was moving east because that was the way Sam Houston and Santa Anna's army was headed. People thought that Sam Houston was a coward for running away
