    Founding of Jamestown
    Jamestown was the first colony to be established by the Virginia Company of London, for the British people. It affects me because it was the first step of building America to be the nation it is today.
  • Plymouth Colony

    Plymouth Colony
    This colony was the first colony established for religious freedom. People journeyed there seeking a place to worship freely. This affects us today because these people were driven to find a free place and they did. It influenced our laws and rules for the nation
  • French Indian War

    French Indian War
    The French and Indian war was a war fought between the colonies of British America and New France. Their goal was to gain territory in the New World. This affects us today because if the French had won the war, America would not be America!
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    This event was a result of the British shoulders shooting at an unarmed crowd of civilians, 5 died and 6 were injured. This was a big turning point in our nation's history and encouraged America to take a stand and fight back.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A political protest by the Americans where they dumped all the tea from British ships into the Boston Harbor. This was one of the first events signaling the colonists rebellion from the British. This helped America to become the independent country we are today.

    This was the first meeting of all the state leaders (except Georgia). They discussed their actions and a plan because of the Intolerable Acts that the British Parlement had put on them. This was the birth our our US government system.

    The American Revolution was when America broke away from Britian by rejecting taxes, and laws set by the British. We fought for our independece and won. Without the revolution, America may have never broken away, and we could have been living in Britian right now.

    The continental congress was when all the states met together. This eventually became the main governing body during the Revolutionary war. This affects us today because it shaped our current congress.

    An announcement of the US joining together and officially declaring their freedom. This is important to us because this document was our nation’s expectations for a nation, and we still value it very highly today.

    This was an agreement that all the states were united as a whole rather than many seperate colonies. This was the start of our nation uniting and forming a strong base to build off of.

    This was our nation's first central bank. It sold shares and stock to the public.

    This treaty ended the war on one side of the US. It helped us to win the bigger wars and gain more allies.

    An uprising against our nation due to the hard economic difficulties. This was a small crack in our nation, that brought attention the the harsh financial impact of the war.

    A convention to address the current issues of governing in the US. This helped us to find the flaws and create a more effective system. We were able to learn from our mistakes.

    The official rules and beliefs of our nations that that set the standards for the Uninted states. Since then, additional information has been added to keep our country updated. This affects us today because it gives us our rules and is a base of our nation.

    The Bill of Rights established our first ten amendments and provided people with their basic freedoms. This gives people the power and freedom we have today and our basic freedoms and rights.

    The new machine lead to a big cotton production and lots of new profit. With the growing industry slavery was increased in the south. This was a big contributing factor to the civil war. This affects us today because the civil war expanded our territory and abolished slavery.

    Adams was our nation's first Vice President and second President. He was also a founding father of our country. He assisted Thomas Jefferson in drafting our Declaration of Independence.

    George Washington was the Commander-in-Cheif of the contential army, and a founding father of our country. He helped to form the Declaration of Independence and was our country's first president.

    He was the third president of our United States and a founding father of our country. He was in charge of drafting the first copy of the Declaration of Independence.

    A purchase of the Louisiana territory costing approximately 15 million dollars. This affects us today because the land part of our current United States.
  • Lewis and Clark

    Lewis and Clark
    Lewis and Clark lead the first exploration that went to the west coast. Their goal was to claim new territory before Britian and Spain could get there but also to study geography, animal and plant life of the area.

    James Madison was in office from March 4th 1809- March 4th 1817. He served as our 4th president, as well as our 5th Secretary of State. Madison was responsible for supervising the Lousiana Purchase and also leading our nation into the war of 1812. He additionally was the author of the Bill of Rights

    The war of 1812 went from June 18, 1812 – February 18, 1815. This was was between the US, and the UK of Britian and Ireland. The war was declared by America for several reasons and lasted about two and one-half years. This war impacted America today because it helped to revive the economy and encourged the building of the Erie cannal.

    In office from March 4, 1817 – March 4, 1825.
    He was our 5th presidet and our 7th Secretary of State as well as our 8th Secretary of War. He had additional goverment positions as well. He was the last president to be a founding father, and was a delgate in the Contential Congress. Additionally Monroe made the Monroe Doctrine

    This Law made slavery boundaries change causing tention between the north and the south. This was a huge contribiting factor to the civil war.

    This policy said that any act by an european to settle on north or south america would be concidered an act of agression. This policy was created by President James Monroe

    In office from March 4, 1825 – March 4, 1829.
    John Quincy Adams was our 6th president and 8th Secretary of State. Adams was responsible for the drafting of the Monroe Doctrine and negotiating the Treaty of Ghent whcih ended the War of 1812.

    In office from March 4, 1829 – March 4, 1837.
    Andrew Jackson wa the 7th president of the united states. Jackson was reponsible for the pass of the Indian removal act while in office. He was also a sucsessful general who served suring the war of 1812.
  • Indian Removal Act

    Indian Removal Act
    This act let congress act to remove all of the Indians from thier homeland and exchange they would get territory West of the Mississippi river. This affects us today because it caused bad blood between the colinists and the Indians. Also many tribes remain in that territory today.
  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    This was the path many Indians were forced into after the Indian Removal act was passed. Many suffered and died from desises and starvation along the way. This stands as a reminder today as a mistake in our nation's past.
  • William Lloyd Garrison

    William Lloyd Garrison
    Garrison was responsible for fighting for an end to slavery. He is still remembered today for his paper the Liberator that expressed his views on slavery. He also played a role in later gaining right's for Women.
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    Nat Turner's Rebellion
    Nat Turner was a slave who lead a rebellion that killed 55 white people. His actions lead to many slaves and black people being punished and killed.

    The Manifest Destiny was a Democratic ideal of a renewed society that was looked upon/ after during the United States war with Mexico. This was a factor that divided people and political parties. This divsion still exists today, but for different reasons.
  • Battle of the Alamo

    Battle of the Alamo
    This was a 13 day fight that took place in Texas. Mexican armies attcked the Texians which later inspired many Texians to join the army. This battle later lead to the defeat of the mexican armies during the battle of the San Jacinto.

    In office from March 4, 1837 – March 4, 1841.
    Buren was our 8th President and 8th VP. He was also a key figure of the Democratic party at the time.
  • William Henry Harrison and John Tyler

    Harrsion: In office from March 4, 1841 – April 4, 1841.
    Tyler: In office from April 4, 1841 – March 4, 1845.
    The 9th and 10th presidents of our United states. Tyler was the first president to sucseed office beacues of Harrison's death.

    Lasted from April 25, 1846 – February 2, 1848.
    This was was fought between Mexico and America for the terrirtoy of Texas. This influences us today because Texas is part the the modern Day UNited states and is right on the boarder of Mexico.
