A large group of Comanches raided Fort Parker and murdered many of the Texans who were there, but also took some captive. Cynthia Ann Parker is one of those Texans, and the Comanches kept her into her adulthood, where she married a Comanche chief.

Due to recurring raids by the Comanches, the Texas authorities realized that there was no hope for peace between the two groups and when the Comanches only produced on of their captors, the Texan troops attempted to kill the Comanches and take them hostage.

(I am not aware if this is the actual date, but no specific date was given as they didnt all pile on only one specific day) In 1840, many Germans immigrated to Texas when the Adelsverein (The Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas) assisted thousands in coming to Central Texas and establishing settlements such as New Braunfels and Fredericksburg.

Mirabeau Lamar hoped that having a strong navy would force Mexico to recognize Texas as its own country, so he had the navy rebuilt and sent them into Mexican waters, hoping in vain that the Mexican government would exchange for the promise that the Texas navy would not harras Mexican ships.

The Santa Fe Expedition (total failure because they didn't accomplish any of their goals) left camp on this day to try and control the Santa Fe area, but the travelers were captured and marched to prison, causing the deaths of many of the expedition. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1845_trailmap.gif

In an attempt to stop Sam Houston (the current president) from moving the Texas capitol back to Houston, an action which displeased many Texans, several Texans tried to fire a cannon at Houston's men, who were on their way to collect the archives.

(The date above is for the Black Bean episode, the date of the Mier Expedition is December 20th, 1842) Texans attacked the town of Mier and in turn were captured by Mexican soldiers, who walked the prisoners to Mexico City. Santa Anna, now back in command, ordered that 17 of 176 captured Texans were to die, so 176 beans were placed in a jar; 17 black and 159 white. Those who drew white beans were taken to prison and those who drew black beans were shot.
