  • Jamestown

    The first English settlement in the new world. Jamestown Virginia.
  • Fur trade and tobacco

    The Dutch established fur trade with the indigenous peoples on Manhattan Island part of a certain exploration by Adriean Block. The crop known as tobacco is being grown by the Virginian colonists.
  • The “Great Dying”

    A small pox epidemic breaks out in the New England colonies desecrating the indigenous peoples population. This is known as the great dying.
  • Slaves come to Jamestown

    In 1619 the very first slaves were transported over into Jamestown
  • House of burgesses

    Another event that took place in 1619 was the first meeting of the house of burgesses. The first representative assembly in America.
  • New Netherland is formed

    The Dutch established the colony of New Netherland in the Hudson, Delaware, and Connecticut river valleys this would eventually become New York.
  • Massachusetts Bay Colony

    A group of settlers lead by john endecott settle in Salem this is the beginning of the Massachusetts bay colony.

    The city of boston is officially established
  • No taxation without representation

    In the Massachusetts bay colony they have issued a no taxation without representation policy and representative government is beginning to be addressed.
  • Rhode Island is founded

    After Roger Williams is banished from the Massachusetts colony in 1635 for suggesting the separation of church and state he founds Rhode Island in 1636.
  • Mystic Massacre

    After high tensions and multiple encounters the colonists of the Plymouth, Connecticut, and the Massachusetts bay colonies slaughtered the Pequot tribe.

    New Netherland fights Hudson river valley indigenous peoples who have been making raids on them it will last until 1645 when they will make a truce.
  • Religious Freedom

    Both maine and maryland give religious freedom a pass by signing acts.
  • The Navigation Act

    England passes the Navigation Act which refused imports from the colonies which in turn put supply shortages on the colonies badly hurting them.
  • Rhode Island passes enslavement law

    Rhode Island passes a law that prohibits enslavement but it is not heavily enforced.

    Anglo-Dutch War

    Because of the Navigation Act in 1651 and the supply shortage in the colonies the first battle of the Anglo-Dutch war breaks out in 1652 and the war doesn't end until 1654.
  • New England Confederation

    The New England Confederation is formed to keep England in the ongoing Anglo-Dutch wars. It is comprised of Massachusetts, Plymouth, Connecticut, and New Haven Colonies
  • Navigation Act of 1660

    This act only allowed for ships with a 3 quarter english crew as acceptable to trade with and goods such as sugar and tobacco was only allowed to be traded with england or the english colonies.
  • The Elliot Bible

    The elliot bible is the first one printed in the colonies and was published at Harvard College in cambridge.

    The duke of york takes the the city known as new amsterdam and renames it New York
  • Fundamental Constitutions

    Fundamental Constitutions written partly by John Locke are Issued in Carolina providing for religious tolerance.
  • Dutch launch Naval Attack

    During the third Anglo-Dutch war the Dutch launch a naval attack and take manhattan and a few other towns including new York now named New Orange.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Bacon takes a group of 500 men and fights indians and eventually burns jamestown to the ground then dies of a fever.

    Governor Andros starts the war by raiding the home and village of french military officer Jean Vincent de'Abbadie de Saint-Castine

    After Colonial rebels put governor Andros in jail the New England colonies re-instutute their own governments.
