People had Radios in there homes to hear the news during this time. Word of mouth was also very popular. The family didnt have a telephone at this time and wouldnt for another 5 or 6 years

During this time my family used Kerosene lamps and candles for lighting at night and relied on sunlight during the day

The family owned a car during this time. It was there main source of transportation besides their two feet. My aunt also remembers fondly the use of ferries.

During this time people stored their meats in something called a Smokehouse. They also canned food which they stored in a backroom. My great grandparents also owned an Icebox

During this time My Great Uncles worked in the bean fields and tobacco fields. Great grandpap worked in the coal mine and my Great grandmother was a housewife

My mom remembers having a single bulb hanging from the ceiling. There were no light fixtures

They had different sources of heat during this time. Some had fireplaces. Some also used coal heat or oil burners in the dining room

Food was cooked on cook stoves.1 side was used to place coal, the other side is where the cast iron and kettle was kept
