(approximate date) While staying with my grandparents during the summer, I was able to play some games and write letters with their word processor on their computer.

(approximate date) My parents purchased our first computer, and we had dial-up internet access through America Online at home. I spent some time in chat rooms for kids, learning about my peers across the country. I also began to regularly send email to family and friends, which is a habit that continues to this day.

(approximate dates) Some family members and I began to create periodic family newsletters, using Print Shop. We incorporated family photos, which we sometimes humorously edited using MS Paint.

(approximate date) I finally convinced my parents to let me have a cell phone. It was mainly used to call them for rides after extra-curricular activities and when meeting up with friends.

At first, I used Facebook just to connect with friends I didn't see regularly. Over time, it has grown to include connecting with family members across the country and joining communities.

I enrolled as a junior-transfer into UIS, and completed my undergrad degree online. I was a part-time student for 3 years. This education was also mostly self-paced, and I spent a lot of time on Blackboard discussion boards.

(approximate date) Skype was my first experience with using online video chat software. I liked it, but it crashed fairly frequently.

Joined Twitter to appease some friends. Only used it to follow my favorite celebrities for about 2 years.

(approximate date) Purchased an iPod touch with FaceTime. I use it to communicate with friends and family across the country.

Began grad school as a LEEP student at GSLIS. This was my first experience with synchronous online education. I have been working in Moodle and Elluminate/Blackboard Collaborate.

Began using Twitter to connect with friends and colleauges. It is especially useful and interesting when colleauges post links to LIS and/or tech articles that I haven't already seen.

My husband and I are about to launch ourselves into the 21st century and buy our first Android smart phones.
