SUNY New Paltz sends a campus-wide email regarding two students with symptoms of the mumps. The cases are NOT confirmed, but tests have been sent out and results are expected by Tuesday, Oct. 11. One of these students has been immunized. Both have been put in isolation.

Test results for the two students with symptoms compatible with mumps have been postponed until Friday, Oct. 14. A third student saw their physician in their hometown with possible symptoms of the mumps. Those who were in close contact with these students were made aware by Student Health Services and the students were isolated.

A campus-wide email was sent out with test results for the initial two students whose symptoms mimicked those of the mumps. The students tested positive and it was revealed that the students did not know each other. The students are kept in isolation.

Five cases of the mumps have been confirmed at SUNY New Paltz. The New York State Department of Health recommends proceeding with the university's Open House on Oct. 29. The university sends out a campus-wide email regarding the decision to carry on with the Open House, explaining its importance to SUNY New Paltz's future.

The Student Health Service confirmed 12 cases of the mumps on SUNY New Paltz campus. An Athletics staff member has been diagnosed with the mumps. All unvaccinated students have been sent home until Nov. 29. Student athletes and students living on campus make up for a majority of these cases.

The Ulster County Health Department reported that a New Paltz high school student is likely to be diagnosed with the mumps. The student previously had contact with an infected SUNY New Paltz student. SUNY New Paltz officials notify faculty, staff, students, and parents in the New Paltz school district that they may have been exposed to the mumps virus. There are now 24 confirmed cases in Ulster County, including 16 on the SUNY New Paltz campus.

As of Dec. 9, there are 64 confirmed or probable cases of the mumps on campus. In response, the New York State Department of Health, the Ulster County Health Department, and SUNY New Paltz will hold a vaccination on Dec. 13 and 14. The school is recommending that students receive a third dose of the MMR vaccine. Students will receive the vaccination for free upon registration on my.newpaltz.edu.
