During the Battle of Little Bighorn, U.S. troops fought the Lakota Sioux and the Cheyenne. Colonel George Custer led the U.S. troops and died during this battle. The Lakota Sioux leader was Sitting Bull. After many years in the military, Little Big Horn is where Custer's luck ran out.

The Dawes Act was named after it's author Senator Henry Dawes of Massachusetts.The law allowed the president to break up reservation land. The Dawes Act would not let the Indians settle on land that they had originally owned.
