    Renaissance

    The Renaissance is a period in Europe, from the 14th to the 17th century, considered the bridge between the Middle Ages and modern history. It started as a cultural movement in Italy in the Late Medieval period and later spread to the rest of Europe. The Renaissance's basis was its own version of humanism, derived from the rediscovery of classical Greek philosophy. Renaissance art, took as its foundation the art of Classical antiquity.

    The Last Supper

    The mural on the back wall of the dining hall of the Dominican convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy, was painted by Leonardo Da Vinci. Not much of the original painting survived because of many factors, and what can be seen today are mainly repairs.

    Country Road in Provence by Night, is an 1890 oil on canvas painting by Dutch post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh. He experiments with his use of colour and the rhythmic wavy brushstrokes placed side by side give the painting great dynamism.

    This paintings was painted in 1907 by Pablo Picasso, and it was called the most innovative painting since the work of Giotto. The reductionism and contortion of space in the painiting was incredible, and dislocation of faces explosive.

    This painting celebrated the day, during the 1830 Revolution, that the people rose and fought for their liberty. Delacroix used the painting as a political poster for the revolution, and he placed himself into the picture as the man on the left wearing a top-hat.
