    Life of Muhammad- marriage, Marriage ,Suspecting something is wrong , His vision & teachings

    -He worked for a widow and soon married her and had 4 daughters
    -when he was 40 he noticed something was wrong with the way people lived in Mecca they were wealthy but they didn't help the poor people
    - he spent several days in a cave fasting and praying and that soon became an Islamic holiday called Ramadan
    - he had a vision while in the cave and he saw the angel Gabriel who revealed Muhammad in Arabic, the sacred word of Allah and he also brought what he had learned back to Mecca

    -Many people settled there because it had a fresh water well
    Mecca was an important trade stop and it was very diverse
    -Mecca is the location of the Kaaba
    -Arabs were from Africa or Mesopotamia and they didn't have a very strong central government
    -Arabian's first inhabitants were from Bedouins
    -They were polytheistic
    - Quraysh was a powerful local tribe of Arabs

    • in 67 some people were not happy with Muhammad's teaching and Muslims were being discriminated against in Mecca.
    • In 621 people in Mecca were tired of fighting and they decided to come together and pleded to protect one another and that became the first Islamic community
    • In 622 Muhammid and his followers left Mecca because they knew they were still in great danger

    • It gave Christians and Jews freedom in return for a special taxes they had to pay -Also some responsibility's and rights

    -Muhammid wanted to create a Muslim city like his home in medina where rooms where large and spacious yet the purpose was to nurture the community
    - In media Muhammad allowed people to worship freely
    - Muhammad changed the way the Islamic religion prayed they used to pray towards Jerusalem but now they pray towards Mecca
    - When Muhammid died in 632 he had united most of the region and after he died Islam continued to spread around the world.

    • After he died many Arab tribes fell and converted
    • After his death and many falling tribes, the tradition had been lost
    • After he died tribes had moved on from teh religon because no one had taken Muhammad's place or ruler yet

    he was one of Muhammad's followers
    -once Muhammad died Abu Bakr had to reunite the community
    - he also forced the tribes to come back to Islam
    - Riddah wars is when he redirected fighting towards other tribes
    - also during these wars, they fought mainly against the Arabs
    -they concurred land on the Arabian peninsula and some other lands outside of the Arabian Peninsula

    • They took over lands that were governed by Byzantines like including Mesopotamia and Syria
    • they also concured jerusilm, palastinen, egypt,

    • all Arabs were reciting the same words from the same books as muslims wich strengthined the foundation of Islam

    Uthman

    -he helped finish the first Islamic city which was finished in 652
    - He expanded the empire to included Iran, North Africa, and Caucuses
    - Uthman standardized the Quran
    -he helped/ finished some of the places Omar conquered

    Ali

    • his Ruling was troubled from the start he had been passed over three times
    • when he ruled the first civil war set off with fighting against each other
    • The first Fitna was what led to the civil war and the splitting of the Muslims into two groups
    • The first Fitna was the first main conflict in the Muslim community
  • Period: 661 to 750

    Umayyad

    • They were the first Islamic Dynasty
    • They conquered Spain, North Africa, and some parts of central Asia
    • These places conquered made the Islamic empire double in size
    • People began to rebel and they were called rebel fighters and thats is what caused that dynasty to fall
  • Period: 750 to 1258

    Abbasid Dynasty

    -They concurred areas to the east of them because the dynasty before them had built part of their empire towards the west of them

    - They established their capital in the city of Baghdad
  • Period: 1095 to 1291

    The Crusades

    -Crusades are a series of violent campaigns by the Christain army
    -There was a total of nine crusades
    - They attacked many cities like Jerusalem, Syria, Egypt,plaistine, Anitolia, and Constantinople
    - They got defeated and Muslims armies once again in control of the whole region
