This event was so importamt because the sputnik one was launched in space by the USSR.This also important because this started the space race between the USSR and NACA.We were also afraid that the russians were having more power than us by creating this technology.

Explorer 1
On this date the first American satelite reached orbit.Explorer one that took a looped orbit around Earth as far as 3515 kilometers on 1958, Jan. 31.This was important because this was our first step to succsesion on improving out technolgy.

Luna 1
Luna 1 was the first spacecraft to reach the Moon and this was a big sucsess for the USSR becasue this also was sucsessfully launched in the direction f the moon.This caught the USSR up a little to the US while we were working on greater technology and sucssecion.

luna 3
Luna 3 was built by the USSR and this machine made us improve our technolgy more than it was and we had toraise the stakes.Luna 3 orbited the moon and succesfully photographed 70% of the moons surface.Later on Luna 3 was declared the first man made object to orbit the sun.

Tiros 1
Tiros 1 was the first sucessful weather satilite launched by the US.We wanted to prove when hrricanes happend and wanted to know when we needed to evacuate certain places.Its main objective though was to test experimental telivision technquines.

Mercury 7
Mercury 7 was a spacecraft launched on may 5th of 1961 there was 3 objectives to this mission and we achomplished one more while the US ere only trying to sucseed these three objectives we also claimed the firstAmerican in space.This was important because all the spots USSR were taking we at least could claimed the one we sucseeded on.

marineir 2
Marineir 2 was the worlds first spacecraft to fly past venus.In its flight marineir 2 also entered a solar orbit.It made mesurments to a interplantery medium while flying by venus.This is important because it did more that we we trying to make it do while we were only trying to accompluish on e thing.

Vostak 5
The USSR sent Valentina Vladmirva Tereshoka out on 16 Jun,1953 to be the first woman in space.This is because they wanted to be a step ahed of the US.This was also their fifth manned flight which means they sent 4 people out to space.This was also important for them as they have claimed the spot for first man in space and first woman in space.

Luna orbiter 1
Luna orbiter 1 took the first pictures from a distance of the moon.Luna orbiter 1 was sent out by the US on Aug. 14,966 and this was a big sucsess for the US because the USSR has claimed first 70 %of the moon pictures while we took full pictures with the luna oebieter from a distance.

Liberty bell 7
Gus Grissomwent on the liberty bell 7 and it was launching properlly at first but soon crashed into the water.This was important because this was the first failed attempt in a long time we have ever seen.
