The soviet union successfully launched sputnik 1. I think this is important because it tells us what the soviets have accomplished and the information they have on the orbit in space. -
First animal ljaunched into space
The soviets launched the first animal into space - a dog named Laika- aboard the sputnik 2 spacecraft. I think this is important because it tells us that if an animal is able to survive going into outer spavce then humans should be able to too. -
Orbit fail
The explorer 2 was sent to go into orbit but failed to reach it. I think this is important because it tells us that not every little thing that you want to happen, happens. -
NASA is formed
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was made and replaced the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics(NACA). I think this is important because it tell us how NASA was formed and how it became part of the space race. -
Won Part of the Race by soviets
The soviets won part of the race by putting a man on the moon first. I think this is important because it helps us know that the U.S. was behind on winning the space race. That the soviets were able to work faster and have all the technology at that time to do it. -
Announcement of JFK's Goal
President John F. Kennedy announced his goal of putting a man on the moon by the end of the decade. I think this is important because it helped increase the amount of work, and thinking in that time, and got all of the designers working to beat the soviets in the space race. -
Men safely placed home
The apollo moon landing has a 45th anniversary in honor of the Complete Coverage. I think this is important because it tells us that the men that went to the moon were very brave to go up there and walk on the moon. It also tells us that NASA made another historical event happen. -
Man orbits earth
A man named John Glenn obrited the earth three times in space. I think this is impotant beacause it tells us that he was the first man to go into orbit on the earth for NASA. -
Apollo 8 is launched
The Apollo eight is launched into orbit. This was NASA's second successful manned mission. The crew on that spacecraft was Frank Borman he was the commander, Jim Lovell he was the command module pilot, and William Anders he was the lunar module pilot. I think this is important because it is the U.S.'s second most eventful date or time it happend. -
The first steps on the moon
On the morning on July 16th astronauts Neil Armstrong,Buzz Aldrin, and Michel Collins. At 10:56 p.m. EDT Armstrong is ready to plant the first human foot on another world. More than half a bnillion people were watching on TV as he climbs down the ladder and proclaims,"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
