    After Project Mercury came Gemini(meaning twins). It's goal was for teams of two astronauts to orbit Earth in the same spacecraft. One team met with another spacecraft in orbit.

    U.S. citizen Alan B. Shepard becames the first American to be launched into space, thanks to Project Mercury.Project Mercury's goal was for a piloted spacecraft to orbit Earth and safely return.

    The Soviet Cosmonaut Yuri A. Gagarin became the first human to enter the vast frontier of space. He orbited earth and then returned safely back.
  • John Glenn-Project Mercury

    U.S. citizen John Glenn becames the first American to orbit the Earth, part of Project mercury. He safely returned to Earth. This was a step further than what Alan Shepard achieved.
  • Apollo 11-First Man on the Moon

    Earlier, President J.F.K stated that the U.S. should strive to land a man on the moon before the decade was over. Near the end of the decade Apollo 11 did just that. No one says it better than the first man himself, Neil Armstrong:"One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
