    Gold and Jade Crown

    Gold and Jade Crown
This crown is from the Korean Peninsula and from the Silla Kingdom. They had seen the kingdom as a country of gold and this may be why their crowns were gold. These crowns were made for ceremonial use of the Silla Royalty. I find this crown interesting because it was representational of the power of the wearer. The wearer represented a priest like figure for the practice of Shamanism. These crowns were very beautiful and showed power through natural materials (gold).

    Travelers among Streams and Mountains

    Travelers among Streams and Mountains
This is ink of silk that was made by Fan Kuan. I think this piece is important to include because it is considered one of the best Chinese landscapes. This is expressing the cosmic vision of man's harmonies existing in a large universe. I like this because it is representing environmental issues as well as a great landscape. Kuan is expressing his own response to nature.

These are important because they are one of the most important examples of blue and white porcelain in existence. They have inscriptions one side of their necks. They are of the earliest known blue and white wares. These were modeled after bronzes.
  • Red and White Plum Blossoms

    Red and White Plum Blossoms
This is an important piece because it presents itself as a simple landscape but it is transformed into a dream vision. It is both abstract and realistic at the same time. It is a folding screen that was popular in Japanese art. It is also interesting because of the artists knowledge of plum trees growth, it can be seen in the tree and branches.
  • Under the Wave off Kanagawa

    Under the Wave off Kanagawa
This is also called The Great Wave and has become one of the most famous pieces of art in the world. This piece of art is important because it inspired many future European artists. It is part of a series titles The 36 views of Mount Fiji. I think this piece is interesting because the wave is very overpowering to the eye but when one looks closer their are many details that open up.
