  • Mob football

    This was when the kicked pig bladder about in the shape of a round ball. The aim of this would be to kick a ball from one to the other between two churches.
  • Sheffield FC

    Sheffield FC one of the first teams to be formed in England.
  • Goal kick introduced

    Keepers can kick the ball out when it is on the ground when the ball goes wide.
  • First FA cup in England

    First big tournament in England in which the top four divisions could compete against each other to win the FA cup.
  • Penalty introduced

    Penalty kick was first perfromed in Hull and Manchester.
  • first time to have played a match that lasted 90 minutes

    Matches lasted 90 minutes with a break inbetween, one half was 45 minutes and the second half lasted 45 minutes as well.
  • Move of Agriculture

    There was little or no free time for workers. When the industrial revolution occured it meant more people could move into the city and they could participate in activities. With this move more people would be able to play sports as there was more facilities in the city instead of the countryside. With a move it meant that you didnt need transport to get from the countryside into the town or city, now they will be able to just walk to the sporting activity.
  • Saturday Half day

    Matches played on a Saturday because people are coming home from work or off for the weekend so they can go play these matches.

  • Gk handball

    Goalkeeper not allowed to touch the ball with his hands outside the box.
  • Public schools

    Public schools were trying out sports such as cricket and rugby and hockey. Sport was popular and had good facilities in these public schools so popilarity grew. With more public schools doing this it meant that the more richer people would be into these sports and so it has kept this trend to the day. The private schools would be more into lower class sports such as soccer and netball etc and this is still the case to this day.
  • Role of P.E in schools.

    It was a key element of the national curriculum, encouraged the development of skills and learning of differen sports. teachers would give up their free time to coach the children. with more P.E in school it meant that this could educate the children about different sports and help them practise differetn sports to find what suits them it also meant that it improved the certain sport depending on how well the children were doing and it helped the understanding ofall sports.
  • Offside rule

    When a player is behind the line of defence he is Offside. This impacted soccer as it made it more structured. It also made it fair for both teams, made games more contested and diffucult to score against the opposing team.
  • First World Cup

    Held in Uruguay for countries all over the world. There was a total of 13 teams that entered the tournament. Runners up were Argentina, and the Champions of the first World Cup was host country Uruguay.
  • Football on Tv

    Football first on television for the public to watch.
  • Public transport

    More people could travel to matches because the transport was growing and was cheap. allowed large amounts of people to travel all around the country.
  • European Cup/Champions League

    first started as clubs around europe compete during the week.
  • Introduction of substitutions

    substitutions used for injured or fatigued players during the match.
  • First European Championships

    Another competiton where countries in Europe compete against each other. There was 16 teams in the tournament and it was held in France. The winners in the end were the Soviet Union who had beaten Yugoslavia in the final.
  • Football association is formed

    the fa was formed to help improve football in england. and organise football tournaments in england aswell.
  • Womens World Cup

  • Sky takeover

    Takeover of football from bbc as sky pay £304 million to show BPL games. Sky still own it for £4.2 billion a year for 120 BPL games altogether adding up to £5.5 billion.
  • Establishment of the Barclays Premier League

    Started a new premier league which is sponsored by barclays banking which to this day is still the name of the league.
  • Bosman rule

    A european court ruling which allowed players over the age of 25 to have a free transfer from one club to another and ever since it has allowed players to join other clubs for free.
  • Alan Shearer

    Alan Shearer gets his 200th goal in the Premier League when he strikes in front of his Newcastle fans at St James' Park.
  • Invinceables

    Arsenal go unbeaten in 38 games in the premier league, something which has never been seen in England before they go on to win the title.
