On May 21,1904 teams from the English Football Association and other european countries joined to form FIFA. FIFA's first president was Robert Guerin. Guerin planned to expand FIFA by having competitions between national selections.

In 1906, fifa tried to have it's first international competition but it had no approval or success. This led to replacement of Robert Guerin with Daniel Burley Woolfall from England.

In 1908, FIFA had more success in the 1908 Olympics. A total of eight teams entered the competition. It ended with Great Britain winning the gold medal, Denmark with the Silver. and Netherlands with the bronze.

On September 1, 1939 WWII made it impossible for FIFA to have a world cup, FIFA ended up cancelling two planned world cups in 1942 and 1946.

In 1946, the four british nations Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and England returned to FIFA.

On May 10, 1947 a match of the century between Great Britain and the rest of Europe XI was played at Hampden Park in Glasgow before 135,000 spectators. Great Britain won 6-1 the money gained from the match totaled to 35,000 euros which was given to FIFA to help relaunch it after WWII.

In 1950, FIFA used the money gained from the Match Of The Century to have the fourth world cup tournament in Brazil. Uruguay reached the final against Brazil and beat them 2-1 to win the FIFA World Cup 1950. Sweden got third place.

In 1954, The second confederation was founded UEFA. It is known as the most powerful confederation with 52 members including England, Germany, Portugal, and Spain.

In 1954, FIFA had it's 50th Anniversity and took a count of how many members it had and the result was 84 members this showed that FIFA made progress and was still expanding.

In 1954, The AFC was founded a few months after UEFA. The AFC has 44 members and is rapidly growing teams like Japan, China, and Korea Republic are getting more attention every year.

CAF confederation was founded in 1957 it has 52 members same as UEFA. In 2001 Africa's best players left Africa to play somewhere else due to the lack of money. Still Africa has some dominate teams like Cameroon, Cote d' ivoire, and Egypt.

CONCACAF was founded in 1961 it's strongest teams are the United States and Mexico who have hosted 3 world cup competitions. CONCACAF has two South American teams Guyana and Suriname.

The OFC confederation was founded in 1966. OFC have not had any success in qualifying for a world cup. Australia the confederation's strongest team failed to qualify in 1998 and 2002.

In 1991 FIFA had allowed for a women's world cup. The host country was China. 12 teams entered the competition in the final USA beat Norway 2-1 to win the first ever Women's World Cup. Third place was Sweden.

The 1998 World Cup was the most successful world cup with more viewer's than any other world cup competition. The final of that year's world cup featured France vs Brazil in the final. Brazil ended up losing 3-0.
