    Indian National Confrence led India through nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience. Indian Independence happened with the partition of India,the British Indian Empire was divided into India and Pakistan.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    The Berlin Airlift is when the Soviet Union cut off all traffic and water to West Berlin. They wanted the Allies to give up West Berlin, but because of the Allies perserverence the soviets lifted their blockade .
  • Creation of Israel

    Previously an all Palestinian state, Israel was divided and jews were given 55 percent of the land.
  • Formation of NATO

    Formation of NATO
    NATO is a defensive alliance signed by 12 nations, including the USA and Canada. It was formed due to cope with their fears of the Soviets.
  • Launch of Sputnik

    Launch of Sputnik
    The soviets launched Sputnik, the first ever unmanned space satellite using an ICBM. One of the responses they got was the US pouring money into their space programs.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The soviets built secret missile sites in Cuba, which was later found by a US spy plane. US sets up a blockade to prevent the installation of more missiles, and they eventually remove the missiles if the US comply to not invade Cuba.
  • Assassination of Egyptian President Sadat

    The PLO opposed Sadat's peace negotiations with Israel without telling the other Arab states, and when he wouldn't reconcile Egypt was suspended from the Arab leauge. These reasons all led up to his assassination.
  • Tiannanmen Square Protest

    The Tiannanmen Square Protests are what students did to voice their discontents. They protested to gain political reform, but what they got was many casualties and eyes opened to human rights violations in China.

    When Hungary allows East Germans to travel to Austria, many of them travel to West Germany, resulting in East Germany closing its borders. New East German leaders come in and try to regain stability, but it all resulted in the fall of the Communist Party.
