    The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) held soccer's first World Cup tournament in Montevideo, Uruguay, with 13 teams. France, Belgium, Yugoslavia, Romania, Uruguay Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, Mexico and the United States. Two balls were used, 1st half ball from Argentina and 2nd half from Uruguay. Uruguay beat the Argentineans 4-2.

    Was held in Tunisia 16 International Youth Teams Participated Countries that participated: Mexico, Tunisia, Spain, France, Uruguay, Honduras, Hungary, Morocco, Brazil, Iran, Italy, Ivory Coast, Soviet Union, Paraguay, Iraq, Austria. Mexico and the Soviet Union faced of in the final where at the end of regulation time, the game ended in a 2-2 tie. The Soviet Union beat Mexico in penalty kicks to win the first ever international youth tournament.

    Was held in China Each of the six FIFA confederations had at least one representative. 12 teams participated. International teams that participated: USA, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden, New Zealand, China PR, Japan, Nigeria, and Chinese Taipei. The USA beat Norway in the final match 2-1 to take the first Womens World Cup.

    The MLS started out with 10 clubs. Tampay Bay Mutiny, Los Angeles Galaxy, D.C. United, Dallas Burn, Kansas City Wiz, San Jose Clash, New York/New Jersey MetroStars, Columbus Crew, New England Revolution, and Colorado Rapids. The teams played thirty-two games each. They were divided into 2 groups, Eastern and Western. The MLS also introdcued the shootout when games ended even. There were no ties. D.C. United became the first MLS Champions defeating Los Angeles Galaxy 3-2 in the playoffs.
