  • Conflict started to come from Liberia

    The conflict in neighboring liberia had spread to Sierra Leone.
    Momoh responded by developing troops to the boarder between Liberia and Sierra Leone to rebel the liberian rebels known as the National Patriotic Front of Liberia. Sierra Leones arny came under attack by the NPFL and the Revolutionary United Front that was led by a former Seirra Leone acorporal, Foday Sankoh
  • Capt. Valentine E.M. Stresser

    Strasser had told Momoh that the troops that were fighting for Sierra Leone were living in horrible conditions. During this time the Revotutionary United front was starting to take more terriortory from the country. Another thing happening during this time is that there were reports of civilions being mutilated, raped, and forced labor

    Strasser was moved to another coup after he was said to have no power to transfer power to a civilian government.
  • Kabbah

    Elections were held and Ahmad Tjan Kabbah of the Sierra Leone Peoples party won the presidential election
  • Peace Agreement

    A peace agreement between Kabbah and the RUF leader Sankoh and it was known as the Abidjan Agreement but, wasn't successful.
  • Maj Johnny Paul Koroma

    Koroma seized power. President Kabbah was exiled. Koroma Formed the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council to rule the country who meet the forces going against them loyal to the Kabbah's governemnt The United Nations Security Council imposed sanctions on the country
  • Armed Forces Revolutionary Council Overthrown

    The Armed Forces Revolutionary Council was overthrown by the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group Troops.
  • President Kabbah's Government

    President Kabbah's government was restored. The Econmic Community of West African States Monitoring Group troops countinued to battle the rebel forces until July 1999 when anothe peace agreement was formed called the Lome Agreement was signed. It says their has to have power-sharing plan that includes Sankoh and the other rebels. Also required the R.U.F and AFRC forced to surrender their weapons.
  • The Peace Agreement

    The peace was threatened by divisions among the rebels. Forces aligned with AFRC took hostages including ECOMOG troops, UN military observers, aid workers and journalists. They were eventually released but, they continued abductions and captured several RUF leaders. RUF rebels countinued thir attacks and refused to surrender thir weapons
  • Sakoh

    Sakoh was doing little to stop the rebels and a battle around Freetown erupted and Sankoh was captured by government forces. The RUF were driven away from the capital by Sierra Leones army with help from british troops and progovernment forces.

    UNAMSIL worked to successfully disarming the RUF rebels. RUF released some territory that had been under thier control.
