    Kansas-Nebraska Act (Document A)
    The K-N Act was proposed by Stephen Douglas to revive expansionism and because he knew slavery would slow down the process he cancelled the Missouri Compromise and replaced it with the ideals of popular sovereignty. The K-N Act could be used to show that many were still warm to the idea of slavery and would fight for it indeffinitely. The causes of the Kansas-Nebraska act were the revivalist feelings of Stepehn Douglas in the thoughts of expansion which lead to distrust within the nation.
  • Dredd Scott Case (Document H)

    Dredd Scott Case (Document H)
    Dred Scott was a slave who was free until the Kansas-Nebraska Act was enforced, and then he was enslaved, therefor he sued the state. The court ruled against Scott because there was nothing they could do. The case shows that many still supported slavery and the expansion of it. The case just lead to more political dissent and tensions between the regions of the naiton, due to the fact that slavery was still supported widely, even in its inhumanity.

    The Election of Abraham Lincoln (Document F)
    Abraham Lincoln based his presidential campaign on stopping the expansion of slavery, and made his campaign in favor to the northern region of the U.S. in order to win the election. His election shows that many people supported the abolishment of slavery. Abraham Lincoln was elected because he knew he could win the northern votes and win the election, however his election lead to a harsh Civil War due to regional differences in the U.S.
