Mongols invaded 1200 -1400
The Mongols invaded Russia in 1200. There was a small principality of Moscow was not conquered. The Mongolian invasion prevented Russia from the Renaissance so Russia was not “ up to date” in technology. -

Czar Ivan IV
He was an evil Czar so some people called him Czar Ivan the Terrible. One reason he was terrible was because anyone who opposed him was murdered. He commissioned the Eastern Orthodox Church and the St. Basil’s Cathedral. -

Czar peter the great was of course great! He gave some serfs freedom. He was much better than his brother Ivan. He helped modernize Russia because Russia missed the Renaissance. -
Napoleon
In 1812 Napoleon invaded Russia. He came with 600,000 men and left with fewer than 10,000 because of cold climates and illnesses. -

He built railraods helping trade. He freeded the slaves. He also incressed the the freedom of speach and set up a modern banking system. -

Alaska was sold to the U.S for $7.2 million. -

Czar Nicholas II created a canstitutionsl monarchy by establishing the Duma. Giving voice to the public. -
Romanov Family Murder
The family was brought down and was told that they were taking a picture. Then the men open fire on them. The bullets bounced off the girl's corset because they were made of jewels and had to be killed by hand. -

The Cold War was between Russia and the USA.The were threating to use the nuclear wepons but never did. -

The space race started when Sputnik launched. From then on America and Russia was in a race to get to space. Russians did it faster but America did it better. -

The Berlin wall was broken down and the Soviet Union broke up....:( lots of break ups... -

He is being elected on May 7th, 2012 again. His first term lasted from 2000 - 2008. -
Vikings Settle in Russ
Vikings from Sweden crossed the Baltic Sea and settled west of the Ural Mountains. They set up small farming communities. Because of the good trading between Sweden and the Byzantine Empire small kingdoms were set up along rivers. This became known as Russ. They got most of their culture from the Byzantine Empire like Eastern Orthodox Church and Byzantine art and their arch. -
