Vikings come to Russia to settle
In 750 the Swedish Vikings sailed over the Baltic Sea. They settled in agriculture-based villages called Steppes. These Vikings made trading routes with the Byzantine Empire. The Empire eventually spread Kingdoms across the settlements and the inhabitants were known as Rus, thus the name Russia. -

Peter the Great gives Freedom to the Serfs
Czar Peter the Great gives freedom to the Russian serfs, but doesn't emancipate them. -
Napoleon Invades Russia
Napoleon tried to invade Russia with 600,000 men, but failed horribly and came back to France with less than 10,000! -
Czar Alexander the II
Alexander the II emancipated the serfs and built railroads, built modern banking systems, and established freedom of the press is just a little bit of what he did. -
Trans-Siberian Railway established
The Trans-Siberian Railway is created with over 4500 miles of railroad. -
Czar Nicholas II dies
The Russian people turned against Czar Nicholas II and the murdered him and his family by shooting them. -
Communism is Established and the USSR
USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) was formed and Communism was established throughout Russia. -
Stalin Becomes leader of Russia
After the dictator V.I. Lenin died, the dictator Joseph Stalin came to power, banning all religions and traditions, and setting impossible work quotas. -
Vladimir Putin becomes President
Vladimir Putin becomes president of Russia until Medvadev becomes President in 2008. -
Vladimir becomes President of Russia again!
Vladimir Putin is elected president once more and this time, for a six year term, not a four year term. -
