    This was the first big sack of Rome.70,000 men from the Gallic tribe against 24-40,000 men.The battle happened because a Roman ambassador killed a Gaul Chieftain. The outraged galls marched on to Rome. Easily defeated Rome.

    Battle of Adrianople 378 AD
    Historians called this battle the start of the downfall of Rome.The Eastern ruler called on his nephew from the west to help with an uprising.He had 40,000- 50,000 men. Instead of meeting with his uncle he decided to attack the Goths himself. About ⅔ of the Romans including the emperor lie dead.

They dressed up as shepherds and told them to go the wrong way.This way led to a narrow canyon and they blocked both ends of it instead of slaughtering the Romans they honored the peace treaty and let them go.

    This battle marked the first time a roman emperor died at the hands of an enemy. Took place in modern day Razgrad Bulgaria.The Galls baited the Romans into a swamp.No numbers were recorded but it is speculated that Canova's forces destroyed the Romans.

    The Romans crossed the Alps to fight Hannibal.In the first engagement Hannibal and his men attacked the Romans in the early morning.After the Romans crossed the river the Carthaginians flanked them from behind.About ¾ of the 40,000 Roman troops died.

    This battle is considered one of the greatest military turn around of all time. General Hannibal showed up with about twice as many men as the Romans. But the Carthaginians won and all Romans were killed.

The roman legions that fought in the battle of Zama came to gain back their respect.Hannibal had about 50,000 infantry The Roman army was thought to have about 35,000 men in all.The Romans cut off the Carthaginians water and supplies.

    The Macedonians had a strong position on the bank of the river but the Romans forced them out of it and they were going through open country. 800 Macedonians stormed the river enraged and the war began. 20000 Macedonians died 6000 fled and were later either captured or killed

    Octavian's forces defeated Roman forces.They were led by Marcus Agrippa.As a result Octavian became sole leader of Rome. He would later change his name to Augustus

    This battle would go down in history as one of the greatest ambushes in history.55,000 of Hannibal's men would route about 30,000 Romans into a perfect ambush.They were on a narrow road between a heavily wooded forest.The Carthaginians killed 15,000 men and took 15,000 prisoners. They also killed 4,000 calvary men.
