    When it was declared that Kansas would be able to choose if they were free or not, pro-slavery people moved to Kansas to sway the decision. There was fighting between those who were for and those who were against slavery.

    Election of 1860

    Abraham Lincoln was the republican candidate and John C. Breckinridge was the democratic candidate. Lincoln won the election with 180 electoral votes.
